IN THE COUNCIL CHAMNBERS OF THE CITY HALL, 11330 BULLZS � ROAD, CITY OF LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA ; I I � ti „ • • COMMUNITY ACCESS ADVISORY BOARD Minutes for the Meeting of March 12, 1990 The regular meeting of the Community Access Advisory Board of the City of Lynwood, California was held on March 12, 1990 in the Council Chambers of the City Hall. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act). Chairperson Mary Wright called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members in attendance were Mary Wright, Bill Cunningham, Rev. C. C. Coleman and Ada Mc Zeal. Excused was Ann Fields. Staff present: City Manager's Office - Gerald W. Forde, Carol de Jesus, and Roy • Bufanda. Recreation and Parks - Jim Given and Perry Brent The minutes of the regular board meeting held on February 12, 1990 were approved as distributed. SCHEDULED MATTERS i 1. CONS3DERATION OF PROPOSAL FROM RECREATION AND PARKS REGARDING i COMMUNITY ACCESS INVOLVEMENT , i The Recreation and Parks Department submitted a proposal I outlining their expanded involvement in cable access programming for Board's approval. The Department, under the direction of the Advisory Board, will take a lead role in the � coordination of all city department and related cable 1 programming. The logistics will be worked out between the I City Manager's Office and the Department of Recreation and + Parks at a latter date. IT WAS MOVED BY BILL CUNNINGHAM AND SECONDED BY C.C. COLEMAN I TO ACCEPT THE PROPOSAL OF THE RECREATION AND PARKS DEPARTMENT � TO 'TAKE LEAD ROLE IN ACCESS PROGRAMMING UNDER THE DIRECTION I OF THE ADVISORY BOARD. MOTION CARRIED. � Following the development of the monthly scripts, the Board � requested that the Working Committee meet and review the script prior to the Advisory Board's final approval and i airing of the program. , � � I ti ,. . . .. � � 2. REPORT ON LYNWOOD SHOWCASE BY PERRY BRENT Mr. Perry Brent updated the board members on the status of the first Lynwood Showcase presentation. He has interviewed the Census people, the Chairman of the Youth Commission and has scheduled Saturday, March 17, 1990, for a film session with the Mayor. The tape will be ready by Wednesday, March 21 and the board members can view the show by Thursday, March 22. The target date to air the production will be the following Saturday, March 24. The Board members scheduled a Special Meeting for Thursday, March 22 to preview the production at 9 A.M., Conference Room. Staff will leave the VCR and the television at the meeting room the whole day so that members who will not be able to attend to preview the show can do so at their convenience. OTHER MATTERS: Recreation and Parks Department suggested a need to hire a showcase host to assist in the pre-production interview i preparation, writing, conducting direct "on screen" interviews, etc. They also indicated that a stipend of $75 j per month be made available for the host to use for some � minimal expenses such as transportation, etc. I Due to time constraint, the staff recommended the services of Ms. Selby Barrett as host for the showcase. ' Chairperson Mary Wright indicated that the community has � envisioned local residents' involvement with the access programming. Mr. Brent, felt that at this point, the ; residents are not ready and the qualified ones, if there are any, were not available. , Mr. Forde suggested using the services of Ms. Barrett until I June, then give a casting call within the community. I IT WAS MOVED BY REV. C. C. COLEMAN AND SECONDED BY ADA � McZEAL TO APPOINT MS. SELBY BARRETT AS THE HOST OF LYNWOOD ' SHOWCASE THROUGH JUNE. MOTION CARRIED. � Mr. Forde announced his resignation with the City of Lynwood to accept a position with the City of Vernon. � There being no further business, upon motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at i 6:30 p.m. ' I
