YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
DECEMBER 6, 1989 MINUTES
The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m. by Chairperson, Errick R.
Lee . `-
The following Commissioners were present at the December 6, 1989
meeting:

A motion to have the minutes of the regular meeting of November 1, 1989
tabled to the January 3, 1990 meeting was made by Chairperson Errick
Lee, with a second by Commissioner Isadore Hall. The motion carried by
unanimous vote. '
SCHEDULED MATTERS•
NEW COMMISSION MEMBERS SWORN IN:
Ralph Davis indicated that the City Clerk Andrea Hooper could not be
present due to another engagement and the Assistant to the City Clerk i
was not available. As a result of this the new members are to be sworn i
in at a later date. I
MONTFILY STAFF REPORTS : �

Jim Given informed the Commissioner of the upcoming Christmas Light Tour �
on Friday, December 22, 1989 from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. and the trip to Pat ;
Sajak show which is free to the public on Friday, December 15 from 10:30 i
- 2:30 p.m. '
Ralph Davis stated that funding for the position for Teen Center ,
facility Supervisor had been approved. The job would entail one hourly �
person working 35 hours per week.

. TEEN CENTER UPDATE: ` Z ,
Ralph Davis indicaPd that a request to rent the Teen Center for a
private party was submitted to the Recreation & Parks office. 1'his
request came in the week of November 13, 1989. Mr. Davis indicated that
there were no quidelines on policies established for this type of
request. As a result this request was placed on the agenda of the
Recreation & Parks Commission meeting of November 28,1989 requesting the
following:
1. Approve use of the Teen Center for renting.
2. Have staff come back with suqgestions toward fees, policies and
guidelines.
After a lengthy discussion the Recreation and Parks Co�nission voted 5
- 0 in favor of recommending to the City Council that the Teen Center
NOT BE USED for any rentals of individual or groups__of _ the private
sector. •.
Upon hearing this report there was a discussion from the
Youth Commission expressing mixed emotions about the Recreation and
Parks Cort¢nission reco�mnendation.
Staff indicated that this was the Recreation and Park Co�nission's
recommendation to Council only and should this item be placed on the
Council, Agenda Co�nissioners are free to speak on it.
Ralph Davis mentioned that Youth Gang Services of Lynwood is currently
working on a Counseling program for the Teens of Lynwood.
Jim Given stated he would supply the Commission with a report about the
proceeds from the video games at the next scheduled meeting.
CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE PROPOSAL:
Jim Given reported on Food Drive Proposal involving Senior Citizens ;
requesting assistance from the Youth Commission to assist in promoting
the Can Food Drive Program for the needy in Lynwood. Commissioner Hall '
made a motion to have the commission assist this program. The motion was ,
seconded by Commissioner Green with all in agreement. !
REPORT ON TEEN CENTER VISITATION: ;
Ralph Davis reported that arrangements had been made with Culver City j
Teen Center for a visitation by the Commission for Thursday, .December �
21, 1989. Trip slips will be distributed to the Youth Commission. j
YOUTH COMMISSION ORAL & WRITTEN COI�II+IIJNICATIONS: �
Chairperson Lee stated he would like to see a flaq in the Teen Center by �
the next scheduled meeting. i
Chairperson Lee requested a calendar of events for the months of �
December 1989 and January 1990 for the Teen Center. I
