The City Council of the City.. of Lynwood met in an adjourned regular session at the Cit~r Hall, 11331 Plaza Street on above date at 7;30 P. t~. Mayor Snodgrass in the chair. Councilmen Skelton, Tweedy, knderson, Kimble and Snodgrass j answered the roll call. City Attorney Hess and Engineer Bateman were present. The minutes of the previous regular meeting of-July 1st, 1930, were read and approved. VffRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: r common ca on was received signed by Mrs.. Ni. J. Day, Car- rie E.. Scherri and C. E Barger asking for the removal of the bridge on Golden Avenue at Louise Street, Councilman Tweedy stated that he would have the matter taken care of. A petition was received signed. by ~. L. Gillette and 32 other property owners protesting against the propose~~ extension of Santa Fe Avenue through Lynwood. The Mayor ordered same placed on file-. The following appliEations were received: '~ Cla renee J. Miller applying for position as Fireman and ~Tohn R. Peters applying for position on the Police Department; also the re- ~, port of health services rendered by the County of Los Angeles. There ! being no ob~eetion, the Mayor ordered same placed. on file. The hoar of 8;00 o'clock P. The Mayor asked the Clerk if any written objections ~or pr®- '~' tests had been filed in said matter, The Clerk stated that none had been filed. The Mayor then asked if there was any one present who wished to protest regarding said matter. There was no response. Thereupon it a~as moved by Councilman Tweedy and seconded by Councilman Anderson that the report and amended assessments be confirmed !, and the Clerk be instructed to file said amended sssessrnent with-the auditor previous to the 15th day of July, 1930. Roll Call: Ayes; Councilmen ~kelton,Tweedy,Anderson,Kimble and Snodgrass, Noes: None. The hour of 8:00 o'clock P. M. having arrived,said.time be- ing the hour set for receiving bids for the purchase of 1140 feet of 10 inch cast iron water pipe and 300 feet of 6 -inch Cast iron water pipe. It was moved by Councilman hnderson and seconded by Councilman Tweedy that the bids be :opened. Ro11 Call: ', Ayes: Councilmen Skelton,Tweedy,~:nderson,Kimble and Snodgrass. Noes: None. The following firms submitted bids: United States Pipe and Foundry Company and ~, American Cast Im n Pipe Company. It was moved by Councilman Anderson and seconded by Councilman Skelton that the bids be referred to Engineer Bateman and dater Superin- tendent Cummings for checking to ascertain who is the lowest responsible bidder. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: Mr, amue ,a•son addressed the Council regarding the improving. of Santa Fe Avenue, as per petition on file, from Lynwood Hoad to Broad- way Avenue in Compton, requesting the Council to expedite the ordering of the work., Mr. A. Bright also addressed the Council asking for relief on said Street. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Kimble and seconded by Councilman Tweedy that the City Clerk be instructed to write the City of Compton asking for jurisdiction to pave Santa Fe Avenue-under the Boundary Line het . Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Skelton., Tweedy,bndersvn,Kimble and Snodgrass. Noes : None . Mr. J. $. Nortmn owner of the ~;astwood Tract near Atlantic Ave- nue, addressed the Council regarding the charge for Mater connections by the pity of Lynwood, stating that he felt that the charge is exorbitant and requested the Council to reduce the charge from 10.00 to X5.00. ~` ?VatAr Superintenaent Cummings also addressed the Council 6 1 regarding this matter explaining the necessary work to install same, also stating tha_ t a 14 inch #~p costs the City X8.75 for which the City charges ~1~''.75 installed, and therefore did not think the price unjust. There was no action taken. REPORT OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES: ngineer a eman reported regarding the cutting off of a portion of the northeast a®rner of Josephine Avenue and School Street for-street purposes stating that the County'Counsel reported that it could be legally handled, if it is perfectly agreeable for them to' do so . Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Tweedy and seconded by Councilman Anderson that the Lynwood City School District be requested to take the necessary steps to advertise for bids for the sale of an easement for street purposes over the land at the northeast corner of Josephine Avenue and School Street. Roll Call: Ayes; Councilman Ske lton,Tweedy,tinderson,Kimble and Snodgrass. Noes: None. Cauneilman Anderson reported that they had not yet met regar- ding .the removal of the transformer at 3184 Cherokee Avenue. - Councilman Kimble reported regarding the changing of Street names in the City of Lynwood and made a motion that Engineer Bateman be instruoted to draw up a resolution. changing the name of Session Street from Imperial Highway to Platt Avenue to the name of California Street which was duly seconded by Councilman Anderson. Noss: None. it was moved by Councilman Kimble and seconded by Councilman "n Berson that Engineer Bateman be instructed to draw up s resolution changing the name of California Street and Gladys Street on the south side of the Pacific Electric Railroad tracks from Lynwood Road to Ban- ning Avenue to Lindberg Street. An ordinance of the City of Lynwood amending Ordinance ITo.l3~' relating to salaries, was read for the first time.
