Councilmen Skelton,~'weedy, Anderson, Kimble and Snodgrass answered the roll call. City Attorney Fiess was present. The minutes of the previous adjourned regular meeting of July 8th, 1930 were read and ~Tater Superintedent 4ummings stated that said minutes should read that a 14 inch water meter in lieu of tap costs the Cit 8.75, for which the City charges~12.75 instead of X14.75. ~he minutes were approved asamended. WRITTEN COM~IIUNICAT IONS common ea ion was received from Mrs. W. Howarth, 11912 Bullis Road, Lynwood regarding the bad condition of Bullis Road. The Mayor instructed ~ouneilman Tweedy to find out how much ' it would cost to have said street oiled. ~' ; A communication was received from the Board of 9upervi- '~~ stirs of the County of Los Angeles refusing to appropriate money far moneys deposited with the County in eminent domain in the matter of certain proceedings in the City of Lynwood for which they received interest, giving as their reason several points of law affecting such cases. The I+dayor instructed the City Attorney to report upon the opinion of the County Counsel in the matter of interest on certain acquisition and improvement bond moneys on deposit in the County of Los Angeles in eminent dvmain.at the next meeting. A communication was received from San Gabriel Valley Protective Association inviting the Council tv attend a meeti~ on July 17th at the Council Chamber of the South Gate City Hall at 7:30 P. M. It was moved. by Councilman Anderson and seconded by Councilman Skelton that the comrrnini~ation be received and or- dered placed on file and Councilmen Kimble and Tweedy and mater " superintendent Cummings be appointed a committee to attend. A communication was received from All-Veterans League For Service, inviting the ~%ouncil t o attend a grand Ralley at the alympie Auditorium, Los Angeles, on Thursday evening July 24th, 1930, at 730 P. ~y~. It was moved by Councilman Anderson and se~- onded by Councilman Skelton that the invitation be accepted and as many as can attend. A communia~tion was received from Presley Moore Real Es- tate Broker calling attention to a meeting for discussion of Bui1d- er's License fees,to be held on July 16th, 1930, at the Bell Chamber of Commerce. Councilmen Skelton and Tweedy having hereto- been appointed a committee to attend said meeting, Councilman Skelton stated that he would try to attend. The following applications for employment were received: ~' R. F. Rodwell, Clark Lorton, Evan W. Lewis, Warren I}aet- Weiler and Felix P. Ersenbeis, all applying for position as fire- men and Walter H. Sullivan applying for position as City Attorney; also report of the County health serviced. rendered was received. Thee being no objection, the Mayor ordered same placed on file. City Clerk Anderson stated th~.t the lights had been ordered turned on. City Attorney Hess .stated that there would be a hearing ~n the matter of paying; of '~~b.e awards for land acquired for Cent oul evard, on August 11th ~r~xi" 12th, but that he e rnil d give no de- finite date when the money would be forthcoming. Res olution No. 721, entitled: "A rESOLUTION OF THE G'1 TY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOII CHANGING THE NAMES OF CERTAII4 STREETS IN THE CITY OF LYNWOOD, TO-~IIT: CAJGIFORNIA STREET AND GLADYS AVENTTE '~ AND SESSIONS STREET," was read. It was moved by Councilman Tweedy and seconded by Councilman Skelton that same be adopted. Roll Call Ayes: Councilmen Skelton, Tweedy, Anderson, Kimble ~ Snodgrass. Noes: None. A,n ordinance regulating vacations, sick leaves and designat- ing certain days as Holidays, was read for the first time. It was moved br Councilman Skelton and seconded by Councilman Kimble that same be accepted as read the first time and passed to the second reading . Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Skelton,Tweedy,Anderson,Kimble ~ Snodgrass. Noes: None. Considerable discussion was had regarding Police Judge C. E. Day, and the following addressed the Council regarding Police matters: Deputy District Attorney Cooper and Chief of Police Rise. tNhereupon it was moved by Councilman Skelton and seconded by Councl- man Kimble that the af'fiee of Police Judge be declared vacant. An Ordinance regarding R~.les of ;Order for the eonduot of Course i1 meetings and providing for the preliminary consideration of reports, etc., was read. It was moved by Councilman Anderson and seconded by Councilman Kimble that same be laid over to next meeting. motion was csarried and so ordered. The Mayor instructed the City Clerk to communicate with Robert H. Dunlap, special Attorney in the matter of A. ~ I. District No. 19 of the City of Lynwood (Imperial Highway) asking for informa- tion regarding the power of the City Council in the matter and whether he has any recommendations to make as to what action of the (3ity Council should be taken v~ith respect to payment of the ~udF;ment and with respect to re-advertising for bids for Acquisition Bonds, or aney other matter in connection therewith. A contract and agreement was received signed by V. S. Proe- for for the drilling of the well at Plant 140. 2 of the City of Lyn- wood. It was moved by Councilman Anderson and seconded by Councilman Tweedy that said contract be accepted and the Mayor be authorized to sign the contract in behalf of the City of ~ynwood. Councilmen Kimble and Anderson and IaZayor Snodgrass were ap- pointed a committee to investigate the purohase price of a pump for the new well at Lynwood Road and California Street. It was moved by~ Councilman Anderson and seconded by Coun- cilman Kimble that the ~`;~241.45 interest money paid by the 14ational Bank for moneys on deposit therein be paid back t o the Water depart- ment from the ~eueral Fund.
