R'~POi~T OF SPHCI~L C OIU1~~.iITT~~:~:5 : Councilman Williams reported on the drainage along Ferntvood Avenue under the Pacific Electric _a.ilwa~ Comp€~ny's right of wa~T at Gertrude Drive, Fir ~itreet and Thirdvenue , requesting the Clerk t o re~.d ~. c~ommunic~a.tion from the Pacific electric vy~hich read that their representative has gone into the matter of sui~stitutin~; two 30" corrug~.~ted iron pipes in place of the tT~^ro compartment ~:onc~•ete culvert at ~'ir Street, the~~eb~ reducing the cost betvreen ~'40G.OG and ~~500.G0; also th~.t ~:.t the suggestion of the CitT Ln~rineer it is not de©med necessar~;r a,t this time to install tree culvert at Ger~.rude Drive, which will further reduce the cost w316.00~ and in view of these changes the City's portion of the total cost is nova y~900.00; that the City ma,~: either deposit the x;;900.00 ~rTrith them or deposit same in their local bank subject to their draft supported b~-'oill, writing fur- ther that they are agreeable to granting an easement . Thereupon the Ma;Tor ins trueted the City Clerk to write the various municipalities given as reference b~~ Crenshaw & Co. to ascer- tain their standard of ws~rk produced. Pater Superintendent Cummings addressed the Council regarding the construction of new water me,ins between Fernwood Avenue and Jose- phine Avenue along Long Beach Boulevard and west on Lynwood Road to Plant No . 1, the cost to be approximately ~6 , 685 .QD . No action was taken. It was moved by Counei lman 1.'weedy that the office of City R~~echanic be deela~•ed vacant. There being no second, said motion lost for lack of a second. Considerable discussion was had reg"~rding s<~id matter, v~rhereupon it was. moved by Councilman Anderson and seconded by Councilman Decke~:• that the matter be laid over to next week and that the heads of the various departments be ins trueted to submit a writ- ten report as to whether the workmanship of the present mechanic is satisfactory end if in their opinion it would be a saving to the City to have a mechanic at the 2,~echanic shop in the City Yards .
