I;~. Cour:~cilmen `;'ihiams, Graysor_ and Decke~• answered the roll call. Couneilrnen Davies am Snyder being absent. The I:=ayor asked if anyone ~~rished the minutes of the previous meetinFm to be read, i~' not their woul¢~ ±~,kP a racers ur_til ~:30 P. ~F. vrhen other members of the Council and the `attorneys would be present. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman e~'illiams ana seconded by Councilman Gr~.yson that they take a recess until 8:30 P. The meeting was again called to order at 8:30 :~. Ire. - I,`ay or Decker in the chair. Councilmen ';`lill_iams, Davies, Graysor_, and Decker answered the Roll call, Councilman Snyder being Absent. ~i'he call of the meeting was then read: - ''You are hereby notified that a meeting of the City Council of the City of Z;ync~~ od will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 1931, at 7:00 P. I.I. for the purpose of discussing the ease entitled:11Pac- ifie Finance Corporation vs. City of Lyn~~rood and to take such action regarding same as the Council may deem advisable: also for the purpose of discussing other matters pe:c~taining to i;~unieipal affairs that may be brought up and take such action on s ame as the Council may deem advisable." Deelcer, i~a,yor of the City of Zynwood~ a copy of v~rhich call had. been served on each member of the Council at least 3 hours before said meeting as required by law. 1'he a:'ayor then asked. ~Ir. .ulholland, attorney for Robert i;:iller, to talk with the council a,nd explain some of the causes of the case and tivhat his contention was, inasmuch~_s one memb er of the Council has been absent, ~;ahieh he did briefly, also an outline of sug ;estion of what he thought the "ity should pursue in order to take care of this claim, as it was not good business to have this debt against the City. Discussion then ensued. john L. Rush, of bush and~ush ~~ttorneys for the :Pacific ~H'inance Corporation next addressed the '"ouncil, and the I;=ayor -asked both attorneys to come to the table for further discussion. Attorney Rush was asked by the i:_ayor to give in a few minutes just what they had arrived at thus far in the case. L,ueh discussion was had. Councilman Grayson at this time asked oz' the attorneys, if they would like a little more time in ~~rhieh to arrive at a settlement and they could confer with our City l~ttorney and all together could effect a satisfactory settlement vrhich they vrould like to do without ,Going into the courts, a compromise being much the better way. Coun- cilman '4'illiams objected to this suggestion and. stated that they had met for the purpose of a settlement and. thought they should have it tonight. ~i~hereupon Councilman Grayson ~rrithdrew the suggestion and the ,:ayor asked if they would like to take a recess of 15 minutes so that the two attorneys could. retire for discussion among them- selves. 2equest was granted by the I.'Iayor. eeting was again called to order at ~:~1~ P. T~~T. Councilmen '.`lilliams, Navies, xrayson and Nec_~er answered the roll call. Councilman Snyder beinJ absent. 1`'~ttorney Rush then addressed the Council asking fora little more time as he felt they should consult their clients before a dec- ision was offered. .-ttorney Tess talker? at this time, intimated that it might be the decision o: the Council, but that he could not tell as he had not consulted them, to settle for the ar_lourlt of ~'r12, 000.00, as a compromise, but that the Council had not authorized such a figure. Attorney Rush then stated that '12,000.00 is far below the amount that would be accepted for his clients, and served ?otiee of Judgement and Nemand for Layment in the ease entitled: 'Pacific Fin- ance Corporation vs. "`ity of ~yn~^Tood, i'or a judgement rendered in the Superior Court in and for ,she County of Los ~~n,eles, State of Calif- ornia,ir~ the amount of;;16,254.00 plus interest U.nd costs, orl each member of the Council present, city treasurer and City Clerl~. ~~~-, w ~ Councilman Grayson made the motion that they adjourn to the next meeting night of September 29th, 1931, at 7:30 F. ~~., and leave it to the attorneys to arrive at a decision within the next dew days, which motion was seconded by Councilman navies.
