The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in an adjourned
regular session at the City ball, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date at 8:00

Mayor Snyder in the ch air .
Councilmen V1i11iams, Davies, Gillett, Schouten and Snyder
answered the roll call.
ji'tie minutes of the previous regular meeting of September 6th
were read and approved.
It was moved by Councilman Schouten and seconded b,,r Councilman
Gillett that Mr. Merritt D. Jergins be appointed City Attorney for the City
of Lynwood. It was moved by Councilman Williams that said motion be amended
by appointing Mr. C. A. Rtaby in lieu of NIr. Jergins, which motion lost for
lack of a second.
Roll call on motion to appoint Iuir. Jergins:
Ayes: Councilmen Davies, Gi1:Lett, Schouten and Snyder.
Noes: Councilman ti'~illiams.
Thereupon Mr . Jergins eras cal led forward and the City Clerk im- ..~~
posed the constitutional oath of office, whereupon Mr. Jergins took his
seat at the Council table.

communication was received from Gertrude Darling requesting
that she be allowed damages in the amount of X7.00 to replace a tire and
tube alleged to have been damaged by an excavation which was not properly
protected on Long Beach Boulevard just south of Fernwood Avenue; also a
communication was attached from Engineer Bateman informing the Council
that the excavation was protectedearly in the evening by a light, but that
later in the evening the torch was knocked over by a passing motorist, but
that he doesnot believe that the City is any way obligated and cannot be
held legally liable for the bill. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Wil-
liams that the Southern California Gas Co. be compelled- to pay the claim as
it was their excavation, which motion lost for lack of a second, and the
communication was thereupon ordered turned over to the City Attorney by the
Mayor for a written report on same.
A Notice of Hearing in the matter of Investigation upon the Com-
mission's own motion in the rates, charges, classifications, rules, regula-
tions, etc. of Southern Calif ornia Gas Co. fixing Friday, September 23rd,
1932, at 10:00 A. N1, ~s the date of hearing. 't'here being no objection, the
Mayor ordered same filed.
The health report for week ending September 3rd, was received.
There being no objection, tre Mayor orderedsame filed.
A communication was received from Building Inspector Collins
stating that the Japenese have moved from 3358 Platt Street on September
11th, as they agreed. to do. `1'herer~being no objection, the Mayor ordered
the communication filed.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:

ment of one representative to attend tre rearing regarding rates of South-
ern California Gas Co. as trey may wi-sh to increase same. Also Mr. A. B.
Gray addressed the Council regarding same. There being no objection, the
Mayor instructed the City Clerk to communication with the Railroad Commis-
sion and inquire what they hearing is about and if it is found that it in
anyway will effect the citizens of Lynwood and therefore should be repre-
sented, that the City Attorney be instructed to attend.
NEW BUSINESS:
In order to balance the budget for the fiscal year 1932-1933,
it was duly moved by Councilman Davies and seconded by Councilman Schouten
that the salaries of the City employees be reduced as follows to take ef-
feet after September 15th, 1932:
Chief of Police, from $200.00 to X185.00 per month
Captain of Police from X170.00 to X155.00 per month
Officer JoY~n Toohey from X150.00 to X145.00 per month
Officers Erkfitz ~ Reynolds from X150.00 to X135.00 per month
Officers Miller and Kerr from X125.00 to X115.00 per month
5 Motorcycle Officers from. X165.00 to X150.00 per month
License & Building Inspector Collins from X150.00 to125.00 per month

pensed with.
That .the services of Mr. C. A. Goin as bookkeeper in the Water Departmen
be dispensed with. ,
That the budget for the fiscal year 1932-1933 showing an estimated re-
venue of 103,326.59 and approved expenditures of 101,346.00, be and the
same is hereby adopted.

on the Water Department. 't'here being no second, same lost for lack of a
second.
It was moved by Councilman Davies and seconded by Councilman Schou-
ten that the City Clerk be instructed to communicate with the Los Angeles
fount Health Department re uesting a reduction in price of health services
from 1,000.00 per year to 750.C'0 per year.

Councilman 4illiams headed a discussion regarding putting more
men to work from the County Aid Fund, making a motion that Engineer Bate-
man be notified to arrange to put 35 men to work by Monday morning in
lieu of ten per day. There being no second, same lost for lack of a second.
Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Davies and seconded by Coun-
cilman Gillett that the City Clerk instruct the City Engineer to prepare
plans whereby two or three times as many men will be able to go to work by
next Monday.

It wasmoved by Counci Tman Davies and seconded by Councilman Gil-
lett that,. the demands be allowed and warrants be drawn on the City Treasurer
for said various amounts.
