The minutes of the previous regular meeting of November lst, were read and approved. Grand Ave., on I'riday evening, November 18th, ~.t 6:30 P. NI. for the neti^rly elected congressionmen and assemblymen. It was moved by Councilman tiVilliams and seconded by Councilman Gillett that th.e comm- unication be ordered filed. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen ';Gilliams, Davies, Csillett, Schouten and "nyder. Noes: None. A communicaation was receive~~_ from T:iessrs. ~~"J. E. Mellinger and A. P.". Berglund, who were appointed some time ago to investigate the pos- sibility of procu.r. i.ng transportation for ~':ynwood to Los Angeles, either by the Yellow Line or Busses, reporting that the~,r could do nothing for .Lynwood in the matter, however that they contacted South Gate and it may he arranged to get transportation by their bus system T.vren same is sold to a private ovvnor. ; also slas~r*estin~; the ax~no~intment of a committee to stud;~= i.;he zon~::~g of the Ci t-r in or~~er to encnurame factories to locate here. A communication was received from Nr. Geo. R. 1~urkin request- ing permit to sell beer at his cafe and restaurant at 1142,2 Fong Beach Blv~'. It was moved, by Councilman Gillett and seconded by Councilman '~'dil- li_ams that the communication be filed. roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen ~J~I9_lliams, Davies, Gi_.11;- tt, Schouten and Snyder. Noes : 1`1one. A communication ryas received from Mr. D. A. Donovan requesting that they be granted permission to place sanitary receptacles on the Streets with local advertisements thereon, free of cost to tre City. A communication ryas received from Fire Chief Dunlap calling at- tention to the dangerous condition that fire hose is in, recommending that the City purchase 500 feet of 2~ inch to replace several lengths that nave bursted and others that are showing weak spots on tests. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman ''lil~iams and seconded by Councilman Davies that 500 feet of 21~ inch hose be purchased, the cost not to exceed 60~ r~ e 1~ 1 0 o t . 1`011. REPORTS OF SPECIAL COTuIPv~ITTEI,: A communicati on was received from Chief of Folice 'I'oohey stat- ing that he has investigated the claim of Lx-Motorcycle U-'ficer Gardner for his vacation in pay as he did not receive his vacation while employed, stating that he has never received payment in the year 1932 for vaca- tion. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman '.Villiams and seconded by Councilman Davies that Mr. Gardner be allowed his vacation in pay as provided by Ordinance, Roll Call Ayes: Councilmen ti'Jilliams, Gillett, Davies, `~nyder anal Schouten. Noes: None, The <zudit report for the first quarter ending September 30tH, by .R. D. Crenshaw F'c Company, leas received. T?^~ere being no objection, the P~~iayor ordered said report filed. --~+ s ^~ i 11 Councilman '.,"Tilliams addressed the Council submitting a letter which he read from the hynv~rood~s Association for Unemployment Relief tivhere- in they propose to attain assume the responsihilitsr of apportioning the City relief work,. recommending C. D. DeLong for the job, Councilman ti~Til- liams commented th~~.t there have been many complaints registered regarding distribution of City work through the Fire Departr~tent and if the respon- sibility is shifted to the L~mwood Association for Unemployment Relief this will be eliminated and the Council will be relieved of callers re- garding same, therefore, making a motion that the work of apportioning the City relief work be given to the Lynwood Association for Unemployment Relief, and that the Secretary of their Organization, Mr. C. '). DeLong, whom they have recommended for the job, be employed bTT the Cit~r at a sa- lary of X25.00 per month, and that he be instructed to give tre Council a report o.f. the names of the ones that have worked for each Council meeting, which motion was duly seconded by Councilman Gillett. Considerable discussion ensued relative to the matter and the _fol- low~_ng addressed the Council relative to same: P,2essrs. Grazier, Denny, Haddock and H. Blight. Councilman Davies wished information what is the trouble with the Fire Department handling same, suggesting that the two unemployed organi- za-lions get together wi th the Council and make tkleir desires knouvn. Councilman Snyder stated th~~t he understood it that there is but the one organization of ~.he unemployed and that is the Lynwood Cooperative association, Unit No. 4, but that if such is not the-case s.nd there still seems to be two organizations, if one member from one organization is chose to choose men for City work, tre others vrill_ not feel that they are pro- perly represented. Whereupon Councilman 1^dilliams withdrew r~is motion ~~.t the consent of Councilman Uillett ~Prho seconded same, and it vvas moved b;~ Councilman Davies and seconded by Councilman Snyder that the City Clerk be instructed to communicate v+rith the two unemployed groups requesting them to appoint committees to attend a meeting to be called by the Niayor for the purpose of discussing the matter further and see if a satisfactory solution can be reached. The City Clem- submitted report of condition of budget at t~~e end of business October 31st, 1932, which was ordered filed.. It was moved by Councilman '~~Tilliams ~~nd seconded by Councilman Gil lett that Police Officers Paul Kerr and Charles Pya ller~s salary be increa- sed from X7.15.00 per month to 120.00 per month; tT~at Police Officers Robt. Reynolds and ?;d. Erkfitz's salaries be reduced from X135..00 to X120.00 per month and tYat Police Officers Hugh.!"Tilliams, Floyd Davis and George Feli$ salaries r,.e increase ? from ~~~'~5.00 per month to `110.40 per month. Ldwr}rd Lello be reinstated as Police Officer at a salary of x'75.00 per month, and to be under the direct supervision of ths.Chief of Police.
