Mayor Dav es in the chair. Councilmen Snyder, Aright, Daetvreiler, Childs and Davies answered the roll call. It arras moved by Councilman Snydor and seconder? by Councilman ~~lri~ht that the minutes of the ad,iourn.ed regular meeting of TQarch 14th, 1933 and of the Special Meeting of F~iarch 17th, 1933, be approve~~ as tivrit- ten. Navy, USS `T'ennessee, acknowledging receipt of letter commending them for services rendered during earthquake period; also one from Captain B. L. Canaga of U. S. Navy of USS Louisville of like contents. There being no objection, the I~~layor ordered said communications filed. A communication was received from F,ir. C, t~J. Shelley, Director of Taos Angeles County League of I~unicipaliti_es urging the Council of Lyn- „~~ od to become members of said organization. There being. no objection, the Mayor ordered the communication filed and no action was taken thereon. A copy of motion made by the City Coun~;il of Pasadena in behalf of citizens of their City expressing sorrow for neighboring cities to the south who were effected by earthquake and offering assistance. T%~re being no ob jection, the rnayor ordered same filed. A communication was received from ~hr*ine~~r John N. Colton of the Board of Ia'ire Under~Arriters of the pacific, submi ttinsg preliminary draft of recent survey of various departments made in the City of Lyn- wood. There being no ob jecti on, the T'ayor ordered the Communication fi- led and instructed the City Clerk to submit a copy of preliminary draft to each member of th.e Council and to the City Ati;orney. A communication was received from Assemblyman `~"Falter H. Sulli- van a knowled~ging receipt of wire reporting on damage to the City of Lynwood ~.vater and set~rer system and to commercial buildings, stating that the Legislature have appropriated ti150,000.00 for purpose of cleaning u.p debris, etc., and an a.d.di_tional X550,000.00 to be used for food for stricken area, a_ssizri.ng th~f, ~~e ~~ri_1~ cio a11. in his Hower. to be of assist- ance' to L~rn,,rrood. `1'herP 'nein~ nn o~ie!~ti_ort, tre I~.;TaZTor ordered the eom- m~znic~3tion filed. R. Cli.f.tan. Thereupon i t was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Chi_Tds that the City Clerk be instructed. to communic:~te with Fir. Frank R. Frenzel who wa_s employed. as srecial inspector to see; that the buildings were properly constructed according to specifications, commendir,.J h.i_m far h.is work, and also for Yiis work as inspector during the ccnstructi.on of the City Hall , which b~~ilding also suffered. no loss from the earth- quake . Noes: None. A communication was received from R~1r. David H. Merrill, Manar,;ing Sec~etary-Treasurer of Pacific Coast Building Officials Confer- ence submitting draft of promised Q'rdinance amending the Building Code in order that buildings in the future may be built more secure in order to withstand earthquakes; also a communication was received from Building Inspector Collins recommending the passage of said amendment, however, stating that he will enforce any ordinance that the Council sees fit to ar~opt re~;tzlati ng h,aildi.n~s. Thereupon an Ordince of the City o" Lynwood Amending Ordinance No. 14l refulatin~ the erection, construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, etc., of buildings, was read for the first time, and the various sections of the propsed amendments were explained by Building Inspector Collin. Itilayor Davies called on several of i;he contractors present in- quiring of. them if they would recommend the adoption of this ordinance. Thereupon Messrs. Skelton, Swenson and Larsen addressed the Council stating that they t^rere not familiar with its terms sufficient to make any recommendations. Mr. Frank F. Menzel stated that he studied a copy that t~ras published i n the pier and favored its aedoption, especially for new con- struction. NIr. Dougherty and ~Tayor Kinney also addressed the Council on the matter. 3w Mayor Davies instructed the Clerk to send copies of the pro- posed Ordinance to ?3uilding Contracto~~~s in the Cj_ty of Lynwood.
