City Hall, 11331 plaza Street, on above date, at 7:30 P. M. Mayor Davies in the chair. Councilmen Wright, Daetv~aeiler, 'Childs and Davies answered the roll call. Councilman Snyder was absent. In the absenaeof the City Clerk, Deputy City Clerk, Mrs. Pearl M. Morris acted. It:was moved by Councilman Wright and seconded by Councilman Childs that the minutes of the regular meeting of April 18tH, 1933 and of the Special meeting of April 21st 1933, be approved as written. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen `~"~right, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Snyder. "trI TTEN CO1'~1t9iTN IC ATI c~NS common cat on was received from the Unemployed Cooperativ® Re- lief Association, asking that the Council appropriate X25.00 per month for the upkeep of their trucks, `t'here being no objection, the Mayor directed the City Clerk to transmit a copy of said letter to the City Attorney for a ruling on same, copy to be sent not later than Thursday. At this time Councilman Snyder arrived and took his seat at the Council table. A communicati on was received from Chief of Police Bailey recommenc ing the granting of a license to sell beer as specified in their applicatior. to Fieldon Grovit,~ at 10810 Long Beach ~soulevard, to take off premises. `hereupon it was moved by Councilman Wright and seconded by Councilmen Daet- weiler that permit be granted and that the Chief of Police be authorized to issue license therefor. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Wright, Daetweil®r, Childs and Davies. Noes: louncilman Snyder. A report was received from the County Health Depar tment for the week ending April 15th, 1933. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered same filed. REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMP~fITTEES hiZ~ of of Police Ba9.ey reported on his investigation of the appli- cation of Joseph Reese and Marion Morgan for a license to practise physic science and psychology, that he was unable to find any complaint turned in about the applicants and as to recommendations he has received have been in their favor, but he does not believe that our ordinance No. 187, as it now stands covers the practising of physic science and that the City Coun- cil should have s ruling on same from the City Attorney. Some discussion was then had and the City Attorney stated that he did not see but that it is contained in the ~hPdin~nce prohibiting the x~ractise of fortune telling in the City and in his opinion is the same as the telling of fortunes, which is prohibited by our Ordinance No. 187. Thereupon it was moved by Council- man Wright and seconded by Councilman Childs that the application be denied. Roll Call Ayes: Councilmen :inyder, Wright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies. Noes: None. City Engineer Bateman reported in writing relative to the water service condition At 3333 Elizabeth Street, that same could be remedied by the installation of an automatic Crispin Air Valve (3/r4") on top of the sand trap at Plant No. 3. 't'he cost of a valve of this type is approximately X35.00. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Daetweiler ~,nd seconded by Councilman Childs that the City Engineer be instructed to install an auto- matic Crispin Air Valve at Plant No. 3 to remedy the cause of the water ser- vice at 3333 Elizabeth Street and in the immediate vicinity, not to exceed X35.00. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Childs that said Ordinance No. 210 be adopted as read the second time, be finally passed and published as required by law. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Coun- cilman Daetweiler that said "rdinance No. 211 be adopted as read the sec- ond time, be finally passed and published as required by law. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, .Wright, Datetweiler, Childs and Davies. Noes: None. NEW BUSINESS: equisition No. 6508 for supplies costing over 25.00 was pre- sented for approval. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Childs and sec- onded by Councilman Snyder that said requisition for purchase of said items listed on said Requisition be approved. Roll 'Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Z'Yright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies. Noes: none. Councilman Childs addressed the Council relative to the purchase of anew Ford Pick-Up truck that is badly needed in the Water Department, stating that Mr. Carlos Johnston has one, which is a good buy for X499.42. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Childs and seconded by Councilman Wright that the Ford Fick-Up truck be purenased for the Water Depar tment on a rental contract basis and that the City Clerk be instructed to secure a contract with 2 equal payments to be made in 1933 and 2 equal payments in the year of 1934 and at the end of contract 1.00 with bill of sale to the City, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute said contract for and in behalf of the City of Lynwood.
