Councilmen Snyder, b~'right, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies answered the roll call. It was moved by Councilmal Childs and seconded by Councilman d'Vright that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of Nay 16th, 1933 be approved as written. Roll. The ltiiayor inquired of the audience if there was any one present who wished to submit bids. There was no response. Thereupon the Nayor asked the City Clerk if he has received any bids, whereupon the City Clerk presented bids filed with him on or before 8 P. Ni. `T'hereupon it was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Childs that the bids be publicly opened and declared. Grazier ad'ressel t'~e Council inquiring lvhat liability t're City will assume in the event the proposed netiv tank mould fail as hap- pened during the recent e~r.thquake, and file City attorney stated in behalf of the council that while he is not familiar with th.e specifications, yet he is sure that they are such that the tank will be one that will not go down in the event of a ma jor earthquake. Tt was also brought out that in the event the tank failed, it would not pull up the foundation and fall ~_engt'lwise, and therefore v~rould not endanger any residents in the vicinity. The hour of 8 :00 0 ~ clock P. M. having arrived, said time being the hour fixed for hearing protests in connection Y^rith the abatement of dry and drying weeds as set forth. in Resolution luTo. 846 adopted. on Niay 16th, 1933, and as per notices posted at least five days prior to the hearing, as re- quired by law. Iv~ayor Davies inquired of the City Glerk vrhether or not there had been any written protests filed, and the Clerk stated that none had been filed. Thereupon the i,`~~yor inquired- of tee audience if there was any one present who vrished to protest to th.e abating of the weed nuisances, but there was no response. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Childs and seconded by Coun- cilman Snyder that the Street Superintendent be instructed to abate said nuisance by having the Vreeds. referred to removed, and he and his assis- tants or deputies are hereby expressly authorized to enter upon private property for t'r;at purpose. A communication was received from City Clerk i?rison of Long Beach ac~rnowledging receipt of invitation to attend meeting of Long Leach Boule- vard Association on behalf of the City Councal; also one from Supervisor ~~Tugh A. Thatcher, stating that he will attend. There being no objection, the N:ayor ordered the communications filed. -- ~~ A communication v,ras received front Herbert A. Jewett, Chief t~'ater and :sewage Inspe ctor of Los Angeles County Health Department, commending V"rater Superintendent Bateman and Mr. Rutter and relpers for :,ssisting in the setting up and operating of the chlorinators during the earthquake. There being no objection, the communication was ordered filed. A communication was received from R. Earl Ruddy, Secretary, Priana- ~;er of the League of Cal 3_f ornia~'Tunicipalities reporting on Legislation that passed relative to gasoline tax distribution, stating that under the new lat one-fourth of one cent per gallon tax levied will be expended within incor- porated cities by the Den=~r. tment of Public V°Jorks of the State in proportion to population. Tr ere hein~; no ob iection, the I1%ayor ordered the communica- tion filed. A communication ryas received from City `treasurer Reed recommend- ing the transfer of ~600.UU from the General Fund to the Bond redemption ''~ Fund to meet City Hall Bond maturities on July 1st, stating that he is re- turning X2,250.00 to the General Fund from the Bond Redemption fund. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Coun- cilman Wright that the City Treasurer be authorized to make the transfer suggested in his communication. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Daetr~aeiler, Childs and Davies. Noes : I~?one. A communiea.tion was received from A. M. ?erblund and J'Jalter E. n~iellinger reporting on transportation for Lynwood, recommending that the Council study the matter with a view of furnishing inter-City transporta- tion, bringing the people to the business district, quoting prices on bus_~e: for sale, and route to be covered. Mr. Berglund also addressed the Council on the matter, and was informed by the Iriayor that the City are not finan- cially able to go into the transportation business, therefore, referred the matter to the City Attorney to check up on a franchise for a buss system, suggesting to Nir. Berglund that he form a corporation. The health reports for two weeks were received, also statistical report for month of April. There being no objection, the P~iayor ordered same., filed. Petitions were received protesting the adoption of an Ordinance that would permit the establishment of mint vending machines, and clairvoy- ants in the Citv of Lynwood, signed by 184 citizens. Ordinance No. 213 was presented and upon the suggestion of Coun- cilman Snyder that inasmuch as thepetitions protesting against slot mach- ines an d fortune telling were filed for future consideration, he suggests that the Ordinances in connection therewith be filed for future considera- tion. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman '~~Jright and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that the fortune telling and slot machine ordinance be tabled until next meeting. The City Clerk stated t'~at an insurance polic covering the City Treasurer against hold-uo and robbery in the amount of 1,000.00, expires June 1st, 1933, the premium being 35.00 last year. Noes: None. r,- Councilman Snyder addressed the Council stating that the 'ood Ad- fnistration of the '~relfare Department of the County of Los Angeles are giv- ing the various Unemployment Cooperative Relief Assoc.~ations units staple food stuffs, and that the local unit vrill :~:~~=~ provided with staple goods to last them for 30 dayTs in the near fiutti~se, suggesting a letter of arx~reciati on be sent. Thereupon it was moved '~~y Councilman Snyder and seconded by Coun- cilman Childs that a letter of commendation for the splendid work of supply- ing staple food to the local unit be forwarded to the Food Administration of the ~fdelfare Department of the County of Los Angeles, thanking the:: for their assistance.
