It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman
Childs that the minutes. of the adjourned regular meeting of June 13th, 1933
be approved as written.

~':'JRITTEN CO MTviUNIC:~TIONS
A -o mmunica.tion was received from Dr. David Bell, M. D. making
application to act as Health. Officer, stating that he is retired and there-
fore ~,ould devote his entire time to th.e matter and do it for a reasonable
compensation. There being no objection, the P;iayor ordered the communica-
tion filed rn d no further action was taken.
A communication was received from Van's Market requesting an in-
vestigation into the matter of determining the advisability of declaring
a "Boulevard Sto?~" at the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard at Fernwood,
on the north side of the ~'. F. ?ail_way tracks, as their patrons find it
diffi cia.~ t to cross the '~oulev~r~~ on account o~'the heavy traffic on Long
Leach ~aulevard. 1'}sere being no o':~jection, the~~~a-;ror directed the communi-
cation turned over to the Ohief of Y'olice for investigation and report at
the next meeting of the Council.
A communication was received frorn the Citizens Rate Reduction
League of Los Angeles requesting permission to have a crew of solicitors
canvass the citizens of Lynwood in an effort to have them join other ci-
tizens in an effort to have themprotest the present telephone rate situa-
tion, when a contribution of 10~ from each signerwill be accepted to de-
fray expenses in connection vrith the circulation. There being no objection
the Tviayor ordered the matter turned over to the City Attorney for investi-
gation and. report.
A communication .was received from the Unified Rehabilitation Cor-
poration to the effect that they are making an attempt to put into opera-
tion, in connection with the recent Federal enactment making it possible
to make loans for damage of earthquake property to municipalities, request-
""'' ing that the City ask from the Unified Rehabilitation Corporation for th e
necessary amount of money for the purpose of rehabilitation, and as there
. is no set form tr-1t can be used for that purpose, advising that the City
Attorney communic~~}tion with their Counsel relative to the proper form to
be used in making application. There being no ob jection, the NTayor direc-
ted the Cit~T Attorney to contact the Unified Reh:-_bilita.tion Corporation
Counsel in an endeavor to find out the proper form to be used for an appli-
cation of the City of Lynwood.
A communication was received from the League of California Muni-
cipalities wrath questionaires attached in connection with. the National
Public ti~lorks bill, urging execution of same without delay; also one from
- the Lea{~ue, ~,~itr excerpts fromthe I~Tational ?ublic Yorks Bi11 was received.
There hPin~ no o~i?etion, the A~a~TOr ordered the communications referred to
the City Attorney for investiaticn and report.
A corrununication was received from the California State Chamber
of Commerce relative to the rublic u~orks program of ~p3,300,000,000 of the
National Industrial necovery Act, calling attention to the urgency of the
compiling of a complete list of projects that the City is proposing, so
that California will receive its just share of the money, attaching a.n
outline indicating the information which is necessa:~y regarding the pro-
posed projects, suggesting that the reports be mailed to the State Cham-
ber; also a communication was received from the State Chamber of Commerce
with copy of the National Industrial Recovery Act attached. There being
no objection, the NZayor ordered the communications referred to the City
!"' Engineer for report as to any worthy projects that the City might make ap-
j placation for money for,. in addition to the improvement of the Water system
A communication was received from Mr. Charles Fran klin NSellinger
stating that on April 5th, 1933 he fell on the sidewalk on the east side of
Long T.~each Eoulevard, between Lynwood Road and Louise St. , when he stumbled
and fell due to a defect in the sidewalk and broke his right ankle, submit-
ting claim for damages in the amount of ~p350.00 for doctor bill and for
time lost from employment. There bring no objection, the PJi~~or referred
the matter to the City Attorney for investigation and report at the next
meeting of the Council.
A communic~~_tion was received from Chief of Police Bailey recom-
mending the granting of a license to M.'` McNaughton to sell beer to take
off premises at 10530 Long Beach. Blvd. It was moved by Gouncilman ti'~'right
and seconded by Councilman naet~rreiler that permit ~e granted and that the
Chief of Police be authorized to issue license therefor.

A report of activites of the Fire 'department for month of Iv1ay

o cilmen Snyder reported for the Conunittee appointed by the
Mayor to confer with property owners and the ua'ater Superintendent about
the location and the erection of the water tank to be constructed on
California and Sanborn Streets, at Plant No. 1, consisting of Councilmen
Childs, Vdright and himself, stating that they met in the Engineers of-
fice anc~ they agreed to move the location of the water tank farther away
from the residences, which will be entirely satisfactory to the property
owners inthat vieinity,according to the residents that they met with.
Thereupon it tr~as moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Coun-
cilman Childs that the contract for the erection of an elevated water tank
at Plant No. 1, be awarded to the Chicago Bridge & Iron bYorks on the bads
of a 12" cast iron riser gibe at their °~~id price of X5,440.00, as per re-
commendations of Water Superintendent Bateman, said firm being the loUrest
responsible bidder, and that all other bids filed be rejected, and that
the City Clerk be instructed to return the certified checks accompanying
the bids of the unsuccessful bidders.

City Engineer Bateman reported in writing on the cost of res~~-
facing Elmwood Avenue, Beecnwhod Avenue, Los Flores Blvd., and Sanborn
Ave. , stating that same would be approximately ~p330.00.

Pr:ayor Davies reporte~ that; at the last meeting of the Los An-
geles County Sanitation District he was successful in getting a few of
the adjoining Cities iViayors together to talk over the matter of procur-
ring an adequate drainage system to take care of storm waters in this
district and as a result of the meeting, they decided on a meeting at
South Gate, which has been held, when the matter was discussed further
and it was decided to have each city adopt resolution requesting the
County to request funds from the R. F. C. for the purpose of cons C,ruet-
ing said proposed drainage project, ~r~fi ich said resolution i s up for con-
sideration this evening.

Councilman Snyder addressed the Council stating that he think
that the Postal `Telegraph and `~elephone Company's poles on Long Beach
Boulevard, where the boulevard is being widened, should be moved into the
rear easement in order to get them off of the boulevar d. There being no
objection the P~Iayor instructed the City Cork to communicate nth the Postal
Telegrph and Telephone Company reouesting them to remove said poles off of
Long Beach Boulevard.

Ordinance No. 216, en ti tied: An Ordinan ce of the City of Lynwood
providing for forfeiture of any license granted under the provisions of
Ordinance No. 213 of said City for impr°oper conduct in exercising the same,
was read in full for the first -reading. It was moved by Councilman Snyder
and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that same be accepted as read the fir
time and pass to the second reading.
