The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular session at the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, at 7:30 P. M. Mayor Davies in the ehai r . Councilmen Wright , Daetweiler, Childs and Davies- answered the roll call. Counei lman Snyder was absent . It was moved by Councilman Childs and seconded by Councilman Wright that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of September 5th, 1933 be approved as written. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Wright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies. Noes: None. Absetn: Councilman Snyder. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS : ..- communication was received from Attorney Charles A. Ruby, in behalf of several citizens residing upon Josephine Street, asking the Council to resurface the said Josephine Street, between Fir and Long Beach Boulevard. This is a distance of approximately eleven hundred feet. The Mayor directed this communication referred to Street Superintendent Bateman . A communication was received from the County of Los Angeles Board of Su ervisors asking the Council to endorse the County's applica- tion for a 33,000,000 alloe?tion from the Federal Public Works Fund. A further outstanding reason for richly favorable consideration of the County's request is tre fact t?^'~t ^lose to 10,000 men will be given em- ployment. Due to tY-~e great amount of preliminary work already completed, many of these projects chould be undertaken almost immediately and all within a 90-day period. 2'he Mayor requested that a letter of endorse- ment be sent to the Chairman, H. H. Cotton, of the State Advisory Board of California as the Council going on record to endorse the County's application. A communication was received from Chief of Police Bailey re- commending the granti ng of a license to sell beer at on sale to one A. H. Sherman located at 11423 Long Beach Boulevard. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Wright and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that permit be granted and the Chief of police be authorized to issue a li- cense therefor. -- Roll Call: Ayes : Councilmen bVright, Daetweiler , Childs and Davies. Noes: None. x Absent: Councilman Snyder. Reports of the activities of the Fire Department and Health Department were received. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered same filed. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ttorney rthur C. Miller addressed the Council presenting an application for permission to conduct a business for the dispensing of cigars, cigarette, tobaccos, and featur-ing novelty games in connection therewith, signed by Earl A. Ryder, and which application was accompan- ied by the yearly license fee of 12.00. No acti,^n was taken at this time. It was moved by Councilman Childs and seconded by Councilman Wright that Louisa H. Decker be awarded the contract for the auditing of the City Books for the fiscal year 1933-1934, at X800.00. NE~'1 BUSI NESS n app ication for a permit to erect an electric sign across Long Beach Boulevard at 11188 Long Beach Boulevard, signed by Jerome Bresler, was read. Some discussion was had. Motion was made by Council- man Daetweiler and seconded by Councilman Wright that the application be tabled for further consideration. Roll Call: 14~ Ayes Councilmen Wright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Snyder. Two Resolution were presented one from the Womans~ Club signed by Mrs. Anna Humphrey, President and another from the Community Methodist Epis- copal Church signed by S. E. Sarson, Secretary, both resolutions as to op- posing a certain gamboling instituti on known as "Tango" and taking a firm stand against such institution asking that the Council revoke the license for same. There being no ob3ections, the Mayor ordered said Resolutions filed. An Ordinance of the City of Lynwood waiving certain delinquent pen- alties for the non-payment of lighting assessments, was read for the first time by caption. It was moved by Councilman Wright and seconded by Coun- cilman Daetweiler that said Ordinance be accepted as read the first time and pass to the second reading. Roll. City ~i~reasurer Reed Addressed the Council at this time stating that he is still working with the Pacific States Bonding Company, and as yet he has not found it necessary to make the trip to San ~'~raneisco, but if he sees that it will be necessary to do so, he will do so, stating that by the permission of the Council he will keep the expense money allowed for that purpose until such time. ' Motion was made by Councilman Childs and seconded by Councilman Wright that 25.00 be allo~ved City Clerk R. W. Anderson for expenses to the League of California Municipalities meeting now being held at Santa Cruz, California Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen b'Vright, Daetweiler, Davies and Childs. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Snyder. The application presented by Attorney Arthur C. Miller signed by Earl J. Ryder was again brought up for consideration and upon discussion was decided that it be referred to the Council as a whole for investigation.
