Councilmen Snyder, 'auright, Childs and Davies answered the roll, call. Councilmen Daetweiler was absent. It was moved by Councilman 'ddright and seconded by Councilman Childs that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of September 19th, 1933 be approved as written. Roll Ca11: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Childs and Davies. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Daetweiler. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: .- invitation was rece ved from the Long Beach Boulevard Associa- tion inviting the Council to attend their next meeting to he held on Oct- ober 5th at the Twin Palms Inn, 1331 S. Long Beach. Blvd., Compton, at Q30 P. TJ~. There being no objection, the T~~ayor directed the communication filed ¢nd suggested that all who desire to attend do so. An Ordinance of the City of Lynwood licensing novelty games and fixing license fee therefor, was read for the first time by title. It was moved by Councilman Wright and seconded by Councilman Childs that same be accepted as read the first time and pass to the second reading. Councilman Snyder addressed the Council stating that he is of the opinion that the license fee should be fixed in excess of X300.00 as provided in the Ordinance, a_s Tango oner~tors have offered higher license to other cities. A communication was received from the Los Angeles Chamber of Com- merce requesting information if Ly~nwoad have officially filed any request for allocation from the Itiational ublic forks, and if they have not done so, if they contemplate doing so in the future. There being no ob jection, the Mayor referred the matter to Engineer Bateman. A communication was received from the Security-First National Bank of Los Angeles, Lynwood Branch, by S. A. Kuhle, Manager, thanking the Coun- "~"" cil for the beautiful basket of flowers .sent them for the opening of the bank. T:~~ere being no objection, the Mayor ordered the communication filed. A communication was received from the Automobile Club of Southern Calif ornia, suggesting that street lights or some other type of illuminated safety device be instal led at tree intersection of Imperial Highway and Ala- meda Street in order to reduce collissions. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered the matter turned over to Chief of Police Bailey and Engineer Bateman for investigation and report. A communication was received from the Lynwood ~~omants Club, en- closing endorsements of their Resolution protesting with alb their power against the continuance of the tango game in Lynwood and calling upon the Council to revoke the license for same, from the Lynwood Junior High School Parent Teachers Association, American Legion Auxiliary, '~iloodrow ~~ilson Farent Teachers Association and the '."Jomen's Aid Society of the Community Me. Church. The Mayor ordered t~~e communications and endorsements filed, and no further action was taken . A com~runicati on was received fro~,~ Fire Chief nunlap reporting on the recent survey of the Board of Fire Underwriters as to insurance rates for Lynwood, and that insurance rates will not be for shingle roofs 90~ per X100.00, in lieu of y~1.G0; composition residences roofs 80~ in lieu of 90~, business buildings from 1G~ to 15~C per hundred depending on type of constr®.ction, as a result of said survey. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered the communication filed and no further action was taken. A communication was received from T<'ire Chief Dunlap reporting ... several 'cusiness buildings in a hazardous condition as a result of earth- quakes, from a recent survey made by Building Inspector Collins and himself, therefore, recommending that such action as is necessary to put the build- ings in safe condition to protect life and property be taken, listing loca- tions as follows: 11450 L. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered the communication filed and no further action was taken restive to the matter. A eommunicati on was received from Mr. Gus Kallas, making app- 111 lication for permission to conduct a business for the dispensing of cigars, cigarettes, tobaccos and featuring novelty games in connection therewith, at his building located at 11440 Long Beach Boulevard. The Mayor referred the matter to a committee of the Council as a whole and no further action Uras taken. A communication was received from Fire Chief Dunlap reporting on his trip to Portland, Oregon where the Fire Chief's Convention was held. There being no ob je ction, the Mayor ordered same filed. A communication ~nras received from the City Clerk reporting on his trip to Santa Cruz, to attend the convention of the League of California Municipalities, submitting copies of his report to each Councilman. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered same filed. Reports of activities of the City Court, Building and License De- pavement, Police Department, for the month of `'eptember, and health report ... for said month and for week ending Sex~tem'~er 23rd. There being no ob jection the T,~ayor ordered same reports filed. There being no objection, the Mayor re- quested the City Engineer to subrrlit estimate of cost of materials to improve said Streets and number of man -days required to do the work he has in mind.
