The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular session, at the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, at 7:30 P. M. Mavor Davies in the chair. Councilmen Wright, Childs and Davies were present. Councilmen Snyder and Daetweiler were absent. It was moved by Councilman YVright and seconded by Councilman Childs that the minutes of the previous adjourned regular meeting of Nov- ember 28th, 1933 be approved. Roll Call Ayes: Councilmen Wright, Childs amd Davies. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Snyder and Daetweiler. WRITTEN CORRMUNIC~TIONS common ca on was received from Mr. R. E. Sharpe advising that ~'" he wishes to rescind the pending application dated of November 21st, 1933, for permission to operate a cip;arette and novelty game. It was moved by Councilman Childs anal seconded rsr rovrcjlman ~rt~ri~ht that the City Clerk be instructed to return. Mr. .."_-harx~e's creek in the amount of `~~'S.00 de- posited with his application, being in payment of first quarterly licen- se for said novelty games. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen aright, Childs and Davies. Noes: None. Absent Councilmen Snyder and Daetweiler. A communication was received from Mrs. Agnes E. Copeland to the effect that the dismissal of Mrs. Isabelle Corning as Assistant Water Clerk does not meet with the approval of the women of Lynwood; also de- manding that Mrs. Corning be reinstated in her position in the water de- partment at once, and that she be cleared of any unfavorable criticism resulting from his understandings in the City Administration. There be- ing no objection, the Mayor ordered the communication filed. Reports of activities of City Court, Fire Department, Building Inspector for month of November, were received; also health report for week ending November 25th, 1933. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered same filed. At this time Councilman Snyder arrived and took his seat at the Council table. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: common cation was received from Attorney Walter I Llyon ad- """'" dressed to City Attorney Hubbard, submitting a compromise offer of 150.00 for alleged injuries to one W. H. Holman by certain Police Officers of the City. Attorney Lyon was allso present and addressed the Council stating in part that he apologizes to the Council for appearing on such a small claim, however, that he feels that whether it be small or large he owes a duty to his client. Ne has no intention to discuss facts as he has discussed tre facts ~R~i tr tre C3 t4's Counsel, and in view o" the fact that law suits are expensive for rots! nartities, the4 feel that if his client could receive enough to pay his hospital expense, he would be satisfied. Mayor Davies informed Attorney Lyon on behalf of the Coun- cil that they would meet in executive session tomorrow afternoon when they will decide on something definite. NEW BUSINESS: he bond of Paul Kerr covering him as Court Clerk in the penal sum of X1,000.00, was presented for approval. It was moved by Councilman Childs and seconded by Councilman Wright that said bond be approved. Ro11 Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Childs and Davies. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Daetweiler. It was moved by Councilman Wright and seconded byCouncilman Childs that Mrs. Isabelle Corning$ be rehired as Assistant Clerk in the Water Department at a salary of ~P40.00 per month for half day service ... to take effect as of December 1st, 1933, Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Childs and Davies. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Daetweiler. Audit report covering the period from July 1st, T933 to Septem- ber 30th, 1933, was received, compiled by Mr. Louis H. Decker, C. P. A., and one copy of same was submitted to each member of the Council present. There being no ob3ection, the Mayor ordered same filed. City Treasurer Reed addressed the Council stating that the C ity Hall bond aecot~nt of tY!e R^nd Redemntt on Fund needs 2,100.00 in order to meet bond and coupor, mRturities, stating that it might be advisable to transfer that amount from the General Fund as the City has never defau lted in their generalobligation bond, stating further that he has 1,300.00 pre.- viously advanced to various ],915 Bond Accounts that can be transferred back to the General Fund. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Wright and secon- ded by Councilman Childs that the request be granted and2,100.00 be trans- ferred to the Bond Redemption Fund from the General Fund to take care of the City Hall Bonds, and that a warrant be draevn on the City Treasurer for said amount , roll Call Ayes ~ Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Childs and Davies. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Child; that the City Attorney be instructed to draft an ordinance fixing a bu siness license fee for the selling of alcoholic beveragec~ for consideration of the Council at their next meeting. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Davies and Childs. Noes : None. Absent: Councilman Daetweiler. City Attorney Hubbard reported that the Courts have granted a re- hearing in the case entitled: "American Securities Co., vs. ,City of Lakeportti o~n pyramiding of 1915 bond assessments.
