The City Council of the City of T_~ynwood met in a regular session, at the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on abo~*e date, at 7:30 P. h1. Mayor Davies i_n the chair. Councilmen Snyder, ~"Fright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies answer- ed the roll. call. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, `~~right, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies. Noes: none. WRITTEN COA+Z~iUNICiiTIUNS: A communication was received from Mr. J. H. Peters submitting ap- pTication to do the City Mechanical work for X65.00 per month, stating that he is willing to move here if appointed. :There being no objection, the Mayor order the communication filed and no .further action was taken. A communication was received from the League of CaliforniaMuni- cipalities to the effect that the Federal C. W. A. for Calif ornia have raised the ratio for materials for projects to 30 0, if there are special circumstances justifying a project on this basis; also relative to Public Works Administration application for loans should be expedited as much as possible. A communication was received from District Committee, District No. 2, Region No. 15, Code of Fair Competition for the crushed stone, sand and gravel,.urging that the Council patronize those firms who have complied with the code. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered the communication turned over to Engineer Bateman for his consideration. The health report for the month of October and for weeks ending December 2nd and 9th were received and ordered filed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 0 I , entitled: "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYN!'d00D CALIFORNIA, CHANGING THE NAME OF NORTON AVENUE IN THE CITY OF LYNZ~IOOD~', to 111th Street, was read. It was moved by Coun- cilman Daet.~~eiler and seconded Yw Co~~ncilma.n ~'~right that said Resolution No. 877 be adopted. ~~oll Ca11: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, GJright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies. Noes : iyone. ~" A communication was received from Barnett-Wilcox, Inc.., request- ing permit to erect a temporary canvas cover over their used cars at 11016 Long Beach Blvd., Lynwood, the cover to be approximately 20~ x 50~; also a communication from Bldg. Inspector Collins to the effect that same would be contrary to the Building Ordinance, however, if it would be set back far enough and would be for temporary purposes only, he sees no objection. It was moved by Councilman Childs and seconded by Councilman Snyder that the application be denied inasmuch as such temporary construction would be against the Building Ordinance. Mr. Harry Wade addressed the Council mak ing oral application for permit to sell beer and operate a restaurant at 11803 Long Beach Blvd. Mayor Davies informed Mr. Wade on behalf of the Co!ancil that it will be necessary for him to apply to the State for license to sell beer as the Council no longer have any jurisdiction in the matter, and that for license for restaurant he should apply to the Chief of Police. NE's°J BUSINESS communication was received from Attorney Walter I. Lyon accom- panied by a Release executed by ~~~. H. Ho1ma1, releasing the City of Lynwood from ~~11 debts, claims, demands, damages, actions and causes of action what- soever and such as have arisen by reason of or in any manner have grown out of that certain altercation between R?r. Nolnan anal John M. Bennett a1 d "'~' E. M. Erkfitz, peace officers of said Ci tv or. ~r about the 26th day of Aug- ust, T933, upon receipt of w150.00. City Cler?~ anderson stated that the warrants has been drawn and is ready for presentation to the Council. City Treasurer Reed inquired of the City attorney if the claim is a legal expenditure, and City Attorney Hubbard answered in the affirmative. RESOLUTION N0. 881, en titl°d as above, being for the construction of rock and oil pavement on Elm Street and Linden Avenue, between Century Boulevard and Beachwood Avenue, was read. RESOLUTION N0. 882, entitledas above, being for the widening and surfacing of Magnolia Avenue, between Long Beach Boulevard and Alpine Avenue with rock and oil pavement, was read. A communication was received from Chief of Police Bailey recommend ing that Police Officer Paul M. Kerr be promoted from a Desk Sergeant to Lieutenant of the Police nPpartment. A communication was received from Fire Chief Dunlap to the effect that Mr. Victor Kaengla has resigned as night cal loran on December 15th, 1933, and recommending that Mr. Bert Myers be appointed as night callman to fill the vacancy to become effective December 15th, 1933. It was moved by Coun- cilman Kengla be accepted and that Mr.Bert Myers, be employed as night call- man to fill the vacancy to take effect on December 16th, 1933. It was moved by Councilman 'J~Jright and seconded by Councilman Childs that the City of Lynwood contract with the Yress-Telegram of Long Beach, California, to insert display advertising in their annual edition on January 2nd, 1934, to occupy space of 18th page for the sum of X60.00, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute said contract for and in behalf of the City of Lynwood. - Roll Call: ayes: Councilmen Wright, Daetweiler, Childs an dDavies. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Snyder. It was moved by Councilman Childs and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that the meeting adjourn to January 2nd, 1934, at 7:30 ~'.
