N. Nay or Davies in the chair. Coia.ncilmen 1rVright, Daetsveil~er, Childs and Davies answered the roll call. Councilman Snyder was absent. Tt was moved by Councilman GYright and seconded by Councilman Child; that the minutes of the nevi ous re~:ular meeting of December 19th, 1933, be approved as written . Roll.. Cavanaugh, submitting de- m~nd for 4.00 for axel broken on California Street where the street is be- ing widened, alleging .that no barricades were erected during the rainy season to caution him not to drive on to the boggy portion that is being widened. At this time Councilman Snyder arrived and took his seat at the Council table. It was moved by Councilman Childs and seconded by Councilman Daet- Weiler that the claim of ~4. A communication was received from Chief of Police Bai ley and Fire Chief Dunlap requestingpermission to members of the Police Department and Fire Department to circulate a referendum petition for the purpose of plac- ing on the ~1pri1 election ballot the question of placing their departments on a Civil Service plan for Cities of the Sixth Class. A communication was recei~Ted from n+Ir. E. M. Erkfitz requesting that he be reinstated as "ol ~.ce 0~'fi c?r of the City of ?'~ynwood, offering to reimburse the City for any expense t?^at has been incurred on his account. There being no ob jection, the bfayor directed that the matter be taken up at an Executive session. A communication was received from Los Angeles County Health Depart- ment, requesting that the Council endorse their application before the State Health Department for permit to operate their clinics. Report of activities of Fire Department, License and Bui]s3 ink, De- partment and City Court for month of December, were received; also health reports, and there being no objection, the Mayor ordered said reports filed. City Treasurer Reed reported that Mayor Pomeroy and himself were down to San Diego one day last week to find out if they could help in in the case American Securities Co. vs. City and County of San Diego, stating that the case wil? be reheard at San Francisco about January 10th, stating that trey were informed tr~,t i t ¢,mi ^;rt ~~e advisable _f or other cities in- terested n the ~~°attoon pct to present a ?->rief, or joint .brief, which would strengthen the case, an7 inasmuch. as I~yn~~vood is vitally interested we should participate in any way possible, which also was the consensus of the members of the Council, City `.treasurer steed announcing that Mayor Pomeroy and himself are going to have a meeting tomorrow when they are going to dis• cuss the matter further, inviting azy member of the Council that cares to to attend.
