It was moved by Councilman anyder and seconded by Councilman Wrigl that the minutes of the regular meeting of January 16th, 1934 be approved as written. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Daetv~reiler and Davies. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Childs. r-- WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: ~ar .t~ten cotnmunicat on was received from Mr. R.F. Rodwell re- questing the Council to grant him a six months leave of absence to take effect January 22nd, 1934. No action was taken thereon other than the Mayor ordered same filed. _ A communication was received from Mrs. Dessie Wellfare reouest- ing that Nevada Street be resurfaced with Josephine Street proceedings if .and wh en same. is done. ,.There being no objection, the Mayor referred the matter to City Engineer Bateman for consideration. A communication was received from the General Pipe Line Company enclosing check in the principal amount of 120.56 and recnzesting that the Council accept payment and agree to accept payment for franchise taxes on October 31st of each year thereafter. City Attorney Hubbard stated that he sees no reason .for the Council passing any resolution, and no use to comfit the City whether the amount is right or wrong. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Wright that the check in said amount of X120.56 be accepted.. Rol'! Call: Ayes : Co>>nci7_men. Absent: Councilman Childs. -A communication was received from Fire Chief Dunlap to the effect that due to the various types of badges and their classific~~tions used in the Fire Department, he would request that the Council adopt a new badge for members of his department, as many of the old badges have been lost or carried away and he therefore has not sufficient badges for all members of the department. There being no objection, the Mayor instructed. Fire Chief Dunl-ap to submit prices of new badges and the design desired. The statistical repot of the Health Department for November and December and for the week ending January 13th, 1934 and January 20th, 1934, were received, and there being no objection,the Mayor ordered same filed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: e application for permit to establish a turkish bath in the Lynwood Hotel by one J. H. OfDay was again brought up for consideration, however, because of lack of a report from the Chief of Police relative to the matter, action was deferred awaiting the report. The Matter of passing ordinance prohibiting the distribution of handbills, which v~ras received at the last regular meeting of the City Council, was again brought up for consideration. It was moved by Couneilmar. Wright andseconded by Councilman Daetweiler that the City Attorney be in- structed to draft an ordinance relative to the subject matter for study of the Council at their next regular meeting. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Daetweiler and Davies. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Childs. The Ci tv Clerk states that he had communicated by card with the property owners on 111th Street rel^~tive to their request that the Street '~' be renamed Norton Avenue, and from 60 some cards sent, 30 have responded rind with the exception of one reply, all are in favor of re-naming 111th Street Norton Avenue. Thereupon RESOLU1~i0N Td O. 897, entitled: "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYN~600D, CBLIF'ORNIA, CHANGING THE NAME OF 111TH STREET TO NURTON AVENUE", was read. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Wright that said Resolution No. 897 be adopted. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Daetweiler and Davies. Noes : None. .,-.,,Absent: Councilman Childs. Initiative etitions were received signed by approximately 1540 qualified electors petitioning the Council to pass the Ordinance contained therein without alteration, or submit same in the manner provided by law to the electors of the City of Lynwood, said. Ordinanc a providing for civil ~~, 'service regulations as effecting the r'ire and Police Departments. It was moved by Councilman Wright and seconded by Councilman Snyder that the City Clerk be instructed to check the petitions at the office of the Registrar of Voters to ascertain accurately the number of qualified electors who have signed same, and to report his findings at the next regular meeting of the Council. A bill was presented by Mulford Garage in the amount of 5.50 for services in straightening the axe! and repairing streering wheel for one Mrs. Ber tha A. Kelly, 3219 Flower Street, alleging to have been dam- aged in falling into an open ditch on California Street. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Wright and seconded byCouncilman Snyder that the payment of said bill be denied. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, S"Jright, Daetweiler and Davies. Noes: None.
