Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies ans::Tered the roll call: It was moved by Councilman ~~right and seconded by Councilman Sny- der that the minutes of the adjourned regular meeting of January 30th, 1934, be approved as written. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies.. Noes: None. WRITTEN COMhNNI CATI ONS ommun cat ons were received from Fire Chief Dunlap stating that he has received the resignation of Mr. Bert Myers as of February bt, ]:934, and that he has re-appointed Mr. Jess Trent to fill the vacancy as night eallman. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Childs that the acceptance of said resignation and reappoint- ment of Mr. Trent, be ratified. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies. Noes: None. A communication was received from the Lynwood City Court, signed by A. A. Wilson, Judge, and Paul W. Kerr, Clerk, requesting that they be authorized to purchase a seal for the City Court as there is need for same on several occasions. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman ti'Yright «nd seconded by Councilman Childs that a seal be purchased to be used for the City Court of the C3 tr of ?,ynwoo!~ . A report of activities of City Court, Police Department, License and _Building Department for month of January, 1934, and health report for weep ending January 27th, 1934, were received, and there being no objection the .,Mayor ordered same filed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS; _ A communication was received from Engineer Bateman relative to ,,.,~, the services rendered by one Mr. M., 0. Trudeau in the Engineering Depart- ment stating that Mr. Trudeau worked from December 18th, 1934 to January 31st, 1934, and according to C.Z°V. A. classification for draftsman would carry compensation of 1.10 per hour for a total of 206.80. It was de- .cided to hold a recess later in the meeting to consider the matter fume A communication was received from Fire Chief Dunlap submitting estimate on cost of badges for his department and design as re nested at the~last meeting of the Council, submitting price of X1.00 to 1.25, stat- ing that he will need five cast badges and seven cap badges. It was moved by Councilman Wright and seconded by Councilam Daetweiler that the Fire Chief be authorized to purchase necessary badges for his department to ful- ly equip the men employed therein. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies. Noes : None . A.certificate was presented signed by the City Clerk, certifying that he had examined the records of the Registrar of Voter's Office of los Angeles County to ascertain whether or not the Initiative Petitions, pe- titioning the ~ounci' to rags A nronosed Ordinance accompanying the petition without alteration, or submit same to the electors of the City of Lynwood, which said proposed ordinance would provide for civil ser vice regulations ~~s ef'ecting the Fire and T'olio:: Department, is signed by the requisite number of qualified electors, and that he has found that saki petitions are signed by more than 15~ of the qualified electors of the City, therefore ,~, are signed by the requisite nup~ber of qualif ied electors . Thereupon ORDINI~NCE o. 229, entitled: "An Ordinance of the People of the City of Lynwood, County"of Los Angeles, State of California, creating a Civil Service Board, providing for the manner and method of appointment; providing for the placing of the members of the Police Department, and the Fire Department under Civil Service", was introduced and read for the first time by caption. Councilman Wright addressed the Council to the effect that in view of the fact that there is better than 80~ of the people who general go to the polls and vote who have signed the petitions and it will be a saving of upward of 200.00 to pass the ordinance rather than to wait and put .the proposition on the ballot, therefore he moved that said Ordin- ance be accepted as read the first time by caption and pass to the second reading, which was duly seconded by Councilman Childs, and upon roll call showed the following result: Ayes: Councilmen Snyder, Wright, Daetweiler, Childs and Davies. At 8:15 P. M. the meeting reconvened and the Council arrived and took their seats at the Council table. It was moved by Councilman Childs and seconded by Councilman Wright that the meeting adjourn to tomorrow night, February 7th, 1934 , at 7:00 P. b4.
