The City Council of the City off' T~yn~rood met in a regular session, at the Citp Hall, 11331 Plaza S1-reet, on abo~re date, at 7:00 P. M. Mayor Boster in the chair. Councilmen Lake, Nieyer, Daet:veiler, Snyder and Boster answered the roll call. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of May 15th, 1934 be approved as written. till members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion carried and it was so ordered. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: communication was received from a Mr. A. B. Cousins of Compton, commending Officer Gardner for the very efficient manner in which he hand- led the bad check case last Friday in apprehending the man who issued the check and was the cause of the party making good the amount. -* Mayor Boster stated that after the City~s police department was notified of the event, after another enforcing agency had failed to act, the man was taken into custody within 20 or 30 minutes, which was very ef- ficient work and he believes in praising any officer when he performs his duty efficiently. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered the com- munication filed. A communication was received from Lynwood Post No. 85, .American Legion of Lynwood, requesting that the Council participate in the Memor- ial Day Program to be held in Lynwood on May 30th, 1934, stating that the line of march will form in front of the City Hall at 9 o~cloek Wednesday morning, advance to Legion Hal 1 where eommerating exercises will take place. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered the communication fi- led, and requested that as many of the Council members who possibly can should participate in said parade. A communication was receives from a Mr. "+l.H. Carlton and H. A. Warren requesting Hermit to operate an automobile racking tract to be located in the Snodgrass Tract in Lynwood, stating that they plan to keep the races clean and will not foster any betting or gamboling of any kind. After considerable discussion it was decided to hold a meet- ing tomorrow night to check into the matter further when the applicant will be asked to be present. A communication was received from the League of Calif ornia Municipalities to the effect that the League is contemplating on taking an active interest in proposed legislation through the State Legislature -- when they convene, stating that it will be necessary that they be appro- priated additional money from each City effected to pay for such addi- tional services, and that Lynwoodts share has been determined as X60.00. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered the matter turned over to the City Attorney for investigation and report. The health report for week ending May 12th, 1934, wa,s received and ordered filed. UNFINUSHED BUSINESS: R INANC N0. 234, entitled: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LYN- WOOD, REGULATING THE SALE ANnUSE OF FIREWORKS AND O'1?HER EXPLOSIVES IN THE CITY OF LYN''JOOD, CALIFORNIA, REPEALING ORDINANCES NOS. 121 AND 172", was read for the second time. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Meyer that said r dinanee be adopted as read the second time, finally pass and be publis~ied as required by law. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Lake, Meyer, Daetweiler, Snyder and Boster. Noes: None. The following& ar~ents st~~mitted bids on the insurance covering the City Treasurer and/or City of L~Vnwoo~, against forgery in the amount of 10,000.00 and covering messenger holdup and robherv i.n the amount of 1,000.00, and ~1,000.00on office holdup: Rehfeld :~- Company, George R. Wood, Claude L. Reber, Geiser ~ Leiser, W. W. Wilson, A. L. Young, Floyd B. Ro~iae and F. B. noterls, all of said agents submitting bids in conf erence companies, they were all the sme, i. e: X95.62 for the~10,000 -- forgery policy for a term of three years, and ~p35.00 per gear for the 1,000 policy covering hold-up and robbery. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Coun- cilman Meyer that the City Clerk be authorized to instruct Mr. F. B. Roberta to write the insurance covering forgery in the amount of 10,000 and hold-up and robbery in the amount of 1,000 in a conference company for a premium charge of X95.62 for three gears and X35.00 for one gear, respectively. A bid was received from a Mrs. Pearle Plaxco, 3711 Josephine Street bidding X1,00 for garage door in City yards; one from S. J. Chap- man of Lynwood Garage, submitting bid of 4.50 for old tires and old iron in City Yard, and one from a Chas. McKeehan bidding 4 cents each for 15 dunk tires. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman ~ "r 7 Lake that the garage door be sold to Mrs. Plaxco for the sum of 1.00, and the tires and old iron to S. J. Chapman for 4.50. Sharp 5.00• It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Meye; that the demands be allowed and warrants be drawn on the City Treasurer for said various anounts. REPORTS OF SPECI_~L COMMITTEES ounc loran eyer.reporte o`n~e matter of pedestrian crossings on Atlantic Ave. to the effect that they decided that one was necessary; also the Lynwood Transfer wishes a loading zone painted in front of his business establishment. Mayor Boster instructed the City Engineer to describe the zones that are needed and turn it over to the City Attorney in order that he can draft an ordinance covering same. Mayor Boster also spoke about the congested condition that exists between California Street and Long Beach Boulevard on Imperial Highway next to the S. E. R. A. office due to the fact that people park at all eagles and do not regard the law, suggesting that lines be painted along the Street for parking at a 45 degree angle and that the curbs be painted red for all driveways along there as so many park in front of driveways. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that the Chief of Police be authorized to look into the matter of parking along said highway and if he determines that it is necessary to paint signs there, that the Street Superintendent be instructed to do the work. All members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion carried and it was sa ordered. Chief of Police Bailey reported that he had conferred with the ~ restaurant relative to a reduced charge for meals for prisoners, and that they are not willing to reduce same, however, that it might be worked out so that the matron can cook the meals here at the City Hall as there is a kitchen f'ulTy eouipc~ed and it may be draper. Thee being no objection, the Mayor ordered the matter turned over to the Police Committee to look into,together ~aj.tr the Chien' of Police and to report their findings at the next regular meeting. Z'he matter of traffic signs was brought up, but action was defer- red for futher investigation; also the matter of the South Gate-Lynwood sign repairs, was deferred for further investigation. I t was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the meeting adjourn to May 23rd, 1.934, at 5:30 P. M.
