SUBJECT: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION ACTIONS – REGULAR
MEETING OF AUGUST 19, 2020
RECOMMENDATION:
The City Council is requested to receive and file the Parks and Recreation Commission
(Commission) actions from their regular meeting of August 19, 2020.
BACKGROUND:
On August 19, 2020, the Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting.
ANALYSIS:
Following is a summary of actions taken at the August 19, 2020, Commission regular
meeting:
1.ROLL CALL:
Present: Commissioner - Haddad, Tarin, Vance, Vice-Chairman Baroldi,
Chairman Rosso
Absent: Commissioner - None
Excused: Commissioner - None
2.CONSENT CALENDAR
The Commission approved the regular minutes of the July 15, 2020 meeting and
received and filed the Monthly Report for July 2020.

A. COMMITTEE ON AGING UPDATE
The Commission received a verbal update of the actions that took place at
the Committee on Aging (Committee) meeting of July 28, 2020. The
Committee voted to retain four out of five goals that were set prior to the
COVID-19 pandemic. The Committee voted to postpone a goal pertaining
to meeting with local churches and organizations to market the Senior
Master Plan. Additionally, the Committee created a Senior Database
Subcommittee to create a senior database to reach out to seniors/conduct
wellness checks in times of emergency. The next Committee meeting will
be held on October 27, 2020.
B. PRIMROSE PARK UPDATE
The Commission received a verbal update regarding Primrose Park from
Director of Parks and Recreation Matsumoto. Director Matsumoto reported
that the City is currently in the construction document phase, that the City
will soon begin the bidding process and that the project is targeted to break
ground before the end of the year.
C. PARKS & RECREATION COVID-19 RESPONSE & UPDATE
The Commission received a PowerPoint presentation from Director of Parks
and Recreation Matsumoto highlighting the following virtual programs:
Virtual Enrichment Workshops; Temple City’s Got Talent; Temple City’s Got
Talent Award Show hosted by Mayor Chavez; Summer Concert Series;
Summer Day Camp; Camp-A-Palooza and Drive-In Movies.

5. COMMUNICATIONS – None
6. UPDATE FROM PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR
A. The Commission received the Parks and Recreation Director’s Report for the
month of August 2020.
CITY STRATEGIC GOALS:
Reviewing the Commission actions of August 19, 2020, furthers the City’s Strategic
Goal of Citizen Education and Communication.

This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020-21 City Budget.
