4. LIVE OAK PARK IMPROVEMENT
Chairman Caswell informed the Commission that the purpose
of this meeting was to review with Randy Meyer of Recreation
Systems, Inc., the proposed improvements for the Park. He
then called on Mr. Meyer for his presentation,
Mr. Meyer began with a discussion on the proposed wood floor
in the auditorium. He pointed out that the original drawings
of the Park do not show a moisture barrier under the founda-
tion which could present problems to flooring of any type.
However, he stated, the existing vinyl flooring in adjacent
rooms show no signs of damage due to moisture so flooring
should be relatively safe. The Commission expressed concern
with a built -up floating floor as it would be several inches
high requiring extensive remodeling or replacement of doors
and door casings and installation of ramps. The Commission
felt the best and most economical approach would be a direct
glue -down wood parquet or vinyl tile floor.
A discussion of the water damaged South wood wall identified .
several approaches for repairing... The- Commission expressed
most interest in removal of the ,existing paneling as it could
not be matched, then plastering and- =applying a vinyl wall
covering.
Mr. Meyer then discussed the movable room divider. He pointed
out that the moval wall, when not in use, must be stacked
either in the room or a closed area constructed onto the room
area to accommodate it. The Commission was concerned with
the wall being stored inside the room as it would require
using a 5' x 6' space and disrupt the use of the room. The
built -on shed to accommodate the room was also a concern as
two windows would have to be removed and the added -,on area
would not complement the building. In response to Commission's
questions, Mr. Meyer indicated the cost for the movable wall
would be between $18,000. and $25,000. The cost estimate was
concerning to the Commission as the projected use of the room
divider was uncertain and also the need may change if the
existing City Hall is convered to a Community Center in the
near future as has been discussed.
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION -2- JANUARY 31, 1983
The final proposed improvement discussed was the patio
shade shelter and related patio improvements. Mr. Myer
described the proposed patio covering and concurred with
the Commission to include covering the stage area. Also,
discussed was the removal of the existing gate areas and
replacement with tubular steel, removal of portions of the
existing block wall and replacement with tubular steel and
the installation of an additional concrete walkway to the
parking lot from the north patio gate. This concluded Mr.
Myer's presentation. The Commission expressed their appre-
ciation to Mr. Meyer for an excellent presentation.
Chairman Caswell requested the Commission to study the
project based on the information obtained this evening
and be prepared to retain or revise the original project
concept at a special meeting to be called for this pur-
pose.
