- ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING JULY 31st, 1934.
The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in an adjourned re-
gular session, at the City Hall, 11;31 Plaza St., on above date, at '7:30
P.M.
Mayor Roster. i.n tre, chair.
Councilmen Lake, N`Pyer, '~aet?vei ler and Buster answered the roll
call.
Councilman ,Snyder was absent.
It was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by councilman
Daetweiler that the minutes of the previous adjourned regular .meeting of
July 24th, 1934 be approved as written. All members of the Council voting
aye, the Mayor declared the Motion carried and it was so ordered.
WRITTEN COPJilViUNICA~.I'IONS
A communication was received from hir. Nelson L. McPhee thanl~-
ing for floral offering for the funeral of his wife, Mrs. Mae McPhee.
There being no objection,, the Mayor ordered the communication filed.
A communication was received from Mr. A. J. Bateman, City Engin-
eer to the effect that Atlantic Avenue project has been commenced with
26 men which will be increased to the full quota of 60 men per shift when
the work progresses. There being no objection, the communication was
ordered filed.
A communication was received fr<om Attorney Eugene L. Wolver
relative to the 4~Iawona Park Water company which is now owned by one Mrs.
Elizabeth Brewster, stating that if the City are interested in purchas-
ing same, he will be glad to submit an offer. A communication was also
received from Engineer Bateman relative to .the matter to the effect
that he sees no merit in negotiating with the signer of the letter with
regard to the purchase of said water system unless the price is very low
as the pipe are inferior lines and nearing the end of their economic
useful life; also that the lines can be paralleled by the City at any
time, Which he would recommend if any major water construction is con-
templated, which would result in a good inves-tment as there are about 70
services. There being; no o~ iecti on, the Mayor referred the matter to
the ',Water Committee for 3nvestigat~ cr. ~n~ Further report.
A communication was received from '"later ~unArintendent Bate-
man giving comparison. costs of del3veri~:g water rills against mailing
same, reporting that the cost of maimng_ss~me_.~mount~~`„to .22:.02 a~ d the
cost of delivering bills x;22.55, stating further that when the practise
of delivering bills was first inauguarated the cost for mailing was X28.00
as postal rates were higher.
Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by
Councilman Lake that we continue to have the water bills delivered by
special messenger in lieu of by mail, inasmuch a.s it gives employment
to a man.

Noes: None.
Absent: Councilman Snyder.
A communication was received from Fire Chief Dunlap, stating
that Mr. Victor Kengla has resigned as he is leaving for ~lashington,re-
commending that a Mr. Robert Rutter be appointed as night callman to fill
the vacancy. There being no objection, the Mayor laid the matter over
until next meeting.
A communication was received from NLr. Robert Reynolds to the
effect that his leg is healing slowly but sure and he hopes it will be
healed in a short time s o that he wL 11 be able to return to work; also
submitting a letter from his Doctor, YJilliam D. ?rJessly, who stated to I~Zr.
F.eynolds that his leg is improving satisfactorily and that he feels that
,~.., there will be a complete recovery before very long, however, that he
should continue the same treatment for the next three weeks. There being
no ob jection, the PRayor ordered tre communication filed, stating that he
has taken the matter of the canr~iti.on of Mr. Re4nold's leg up with the
State Comnensat~ on Insurance Fund and the rounc3.1 ~~ri.ll wait information
from them before definite action is taken.
An application was received from iv~r. Hobert A. P~ioffitt apply-
ing for the position of Police Judge.
The health report was received from the County Health Depart-
ment for weeks ending July 14th and 21st and the Monthly report.
There being no objection, the Niayor ordered said application
and reports filed.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Mr. Miller, 11205 Grape Street, addressed the Council on the
proposed ordinance fixing water rated on a basis of 50 foot lot, stating
that if same is finally adopted he will be unable to pay the water rent that
will accrue therefrom as he owns 111 feet of frontage with an aver age

depth of 76 feet, stating further that`he is a Spanish-American war veteran
armd has but a small pension to rely on. Af ter some discussion it was determ-
ined that the proposed ordinance should be ree.hecked with the thought in
-mind that it might be worked out on a square .foot basis rather than on a
frontage proposition, therefore, no further action was taken. LTNFIP~ISHED
BUSINESS.
The Ordinance on changing the fire zone was brought for
second reading, howeQer, after some consideration, the matter vacs laid over
until next meeting.

It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Council-
man Daetweiler that the demands be allowed and cvarr«nts be drawn on the
City Treasurer for said various amounts.

Noes: None.
Absent: Councilman Snyder.
It was moved by Councilman Lake and Seconded by
Councilman NZeyer that the meeting adjourn to August 7th, 1934, at 7:30 P.M.
