Tvieyer, Daetweiler, Snyder and Boster answer- It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that the minutes of tre previous adjourned regular meetings of August 22nd and August 27th and of the Special meeting held on August 30th, 1934, be approved a.s written. All members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion carried and it was so ordered. ti'~tRI^1TEN COMMUNICATIONS common cation was received from the Walnut Park Chamber of Commerce requesting the City of Lynwood to participate in the celebration of the widening of Long Beach Boulevard through ~"lalnut Park to be held on Thursday, September 6th, 1934. There being no objection, the mayor ordered the communication filed, requesting as many as possible attend. A communication was received from the Lynwood Elementary Schools requesting that appropriate markers be placed at the intersections of Long Beach Youlevard and Louise Street; also Fir Street at Fernwood Avenue as same have been designated as pedestrian school crossings for the school season. There being no objection, the Mayor referred the matter to the Police Chief for action. A communication teas received from the Emergency Relief Admin- ~stration of the State of California, Los Angeles Office, signed by A. City attorney Kennedy addressed the Coup- cil on the matter stating in part that the letter had been answered before it reached the City Clerk with the request that-some of the mat- ters be reconsidered and the Los Angeles office are going to resubmit f _ part of the application directly to the San Fr ancisco office, as the ap- plication originally passed tr.e Los Angeles office and was approved by there A communication was received from the Tvierch~ts and Business Interests of the City of Lynwood, to the effect that they believe that the number of men on the Police Department should be retained to protect the :xzsinesses and homes, stating that they feel that a reduction of de- partment would invite the criminal element to harbor in the City; also su~- gesting that in any reduction of City employees, that it is fair to all that the last man or women employed in any department should be the first let go. There being no objection, the Tui~yor ordered the communication filed. A communication ~rJas received .from the 1915 Improvement Bond Act Committee, reporting on activities of the counsel in the matter of recent decisions, requesting that furt?~er ax~propriat_ons be made by Cities to fur- ther test the various legal que~ti~?r,s i.nvolve~T, and to determine the rights and duties of the Cities under t?~e Tmrrnvement Bond Act of 1915. Barber, protest- ` ing having his check refused by the ~"Vater Department because the 25~ re- bate was not included, stating that he mailed the letter on the 20th, how- ever, it was disclosed that the post mark on the envelope was August 21st, 1934, and the Ordinance calls for a rebate s;llotivance if paid on or before the 20th, therefore, the Clerk ryas instructed to notify Mr. Ba.ter to that effect. Reports of activities of Fire Department, City Court and health re_oorts were received. Collins investi- gated the application for permit to operate a dog kennel on Long Beach. Boulev~:~rd made by I~ir. Frr=r~k P. Mayor Boster announced triat the Council have not reached a de- cis.on with respect to the economic plan that he proposed at the previous meeting, however, it would come up for disposal at the next regular meet- ing. A bill was received from Mr. George Kennedy, City Attorney in the amount of ~50~00 for stenographic services in the case entitled: ""Gr~efe vs. City of Lynwood, claiming services from August 7th to August 5th, 1934, inclusive. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by ouncilman Meyer that the claim be allovrecl and warrant be drawn. on the 6ity Treasurer for said amount and upon roll call showed the following re~1.t Ayes: Councilmen Lake, iaieyer, Daetweiler, Snyder and ?otter. Noes: None. The City Clerk announced that the policies covering a17. City owned vehicles against Public Lia'~ility and Pr operty Damage and Fire and Theft will expire on September 14th, 1934. Sweet '- Crawford Insur- ance Company presented a letter in behalf of Per. Cavanaugh made applica- tion to ~,vrite said insurance. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Daet.~reiler that said insur:~nce be renewed with the Great American Insurance Company, being a conference compah.y, for a period of one year, and that Insurance Agents Claude Pe'~er, G. At this time Councilman Daetweiler requested to be excused which was granted, whereupon Mr. Daetweiler vacated. his seat and left the Coun- cil 'hamber. l~~ayor Koster stated that t?~ere is a bad defect in the sidewalk on Oakwood Avenue just off off' Tong ?each Boulevard, and if there is no objection, he would instruct the City Clerk to notify Street Superinten- dent Bateman to have the defeet3.~~e ~.val.k repaired, as a man fell on account of same the other day.
