J REGULAR MEETIi~G FEBRUARY 19TH, 1935 The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular ses- sion at the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, at 7:30 P M. Mayor Boater in the Chair. Councilmen Meyer, Daettiveiler, Snyder and Boster answered the roll call. Councilman Lake was absent. It was moved by councilman Meyer and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of February 5th, 1935 be approved as written. All members present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion carried and it was, so ordered. GdRITTEN COIuTMUNICATIONS: common cat on was received from the Los Angeles County League of Municipalities inviting the Council to attend their meeting to be held at Torrance at the 'Noman~s Club, Engarcia Ave., just off of Torrance Boulevard on `T'hursday, February 21st, 1935, at 6:30 P. M, Mayor Boster requested that those who plan on attending to so inform the City Clerk in order that reservations might be made. A communication was received from Mr. J. K. V~erwinske requesting the Council to pass a resolution attached, urging U. S. Congress to approve General Pulaski~s P~4emorial Day Resolution now pending before theix flonbrable Body, which would provide for a Memorial day on October 11th, 1935. No action was taken, but the Mayor ordered the communication filed, A communication was received from a Ada Simmerman, 3305 Euclid Ave. requesting permit to erect a tent 20 x 30 on her property, represent- ing the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ, After dp.e consideration, it was duly moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that the application be granted, subject to the approval of Building Inspector Collins. All members of the Council present voting aye, the 1~~ayor declared the motion duly carried. A petition was received signed by 12 property owners along Esther Street, petitioning the Council to resurface said Street, using SERA labor and material to be furnished by the City in order that there will be no assessment levied against abutting property therefor. There being no objection, the Mayor referred the matter to Engineer Bateman for report as to cost and make recommendation thereon. The health reports f'or weeps ending February 2nd and 9th, 1935 were received and ordered filed. REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES: g neer.Ba amen reporte on t e cost of furnishing water for the Unit 1`10. 4 of Lynwood as requested in their letter of January 28th, stating that the acreage would be approximatel 50 acres under cultivation and would call for an outlay of approximately 1,129.00 on the part of the City to furnish water to the locations outlined in their letter. There being no objection, the Mayor instructed the City Clerk to notify the Manager of the knit to appoint a committee of three to meet with the Engineer, Chairman of the Water Conunittee and Chairman of the Street Com- mittee to go into the matter further and, see if a satisfactory solution cannot be worked out, A communication was received from Engineer Bateman reporting on the matter of the comp3i~int of- one Jack Barris about the fence sagging on account of the alley being cut through on the side of Beechwood Court, stating that the expense-to remedy the situation would be very small to either party, stating that there is some question as to the responsibility There being no objectian, the Mayor referred the matter back to the Engi- neer and Street Chairman for final disposition. A communication was received from Engineer Bateman relative to the cost of improving_yine Street, between Shirley Ave. and Imperial highway with grading and oiling, setting .the amount at approximate 2$5.00; also stating there would 'be no cost to scarify Bullis Road, between ~jorton Road and Imperial, however, that he would recommend that no work be done of tl~e nature referred to above until after the rainy season, as it would not hold up. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered the communications filed until after said period. City Attorney Kennedy reported on matter of Lynwood Cooperative Unit request for information relative to whether or not they would have to pay a license to handle staple articles at their warehouse, City Attorney Kennedy stating that for a buying pool where the members pool their resources in making purchases; such a venture in his opinion does not come within the provisions~of.Ordinance 241 requiring a license. Lake and Chas. G. Bolter were sigrled by --~+ the requisite number of qualified electors to call a special municipal election, certifying that they were signed by the requisite number to call such an election. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman nieyer and seconded by Councilman Snider that a Special lunicipal Election be called as required by law f'or March 29th, 1935, and that t'n.e City Attorney be instructed to draft the resolution calling said election for passage tomorrow night at 5 P . lvl. S. office administered by Mr O'Shaughnessy, Registrat for the last past ttrro weeks and since its incep- tion. Discussion vvas had relative to the discontinuance of the office, however, no action tAras taken.
