HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1935-03-19 - CCREGULAR MEETING MARCH 19TH, 1935. 2 ~~~ The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular ses- sion at the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, at 7:30 P. M. Mayor Bos ter in the chair . _ Councilmen Lake, Meyer, Daetweiler and Baster ansvrered the roll call. Councilman Snyder was absent. It was moved by Council~p~ Lake and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of March 5th, T935 be approved as written. All members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor de- clared the motion duly carried. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: n inv tction was race ved from Los Angeles County League of Municipalities requesting the Council to attend their next meeting to be held at Santa Monica at the Miramar Hotel when discussion will be had on license problems led by Mr. Lester of Santa Monica, dinner to be ser- ved at 6:30 P. M. 2'he Mayor requested anv Councilman vah o can attend to so notifq the Clerk in order that reservations may be made for the dinner. A communication was received from Ralbh B. Smith, Chief Engin- eaer of Los Angeles County Relief Administration thanking the Council for offering free water for their community garden plot to be located at Car- ess and Morton Road. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered the com- munication filed. A communication xas received from the League of California Muni- cipalities by Rarold Pomeroy, Field Representative, reporting on the pro- gress of the amici curse in the matter of the 1933 refunding bond act case, and thanking the City for permitting their name to be added to the brief. There being no objection, the Mayor ordered the communication filed. A cammunication was received from lU~rs. Grorge D. Wyatt, Presi- dent of. the Lynwood Junior High Parent Teachers Association requesting that Cedar Street be improved east of Bullis Road to the end of Lynwood boundary just north of the J~hn.ior High School, contending that it is bad- ly in need of repair; also stating that Engineer Bateman. has inf ormed her that the cost would be approximately ~?5.00 for surfacing same. T here- upon it was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that we appropriate 75.00 for the purpose of surf acing said teat, if it is found by the Engineer that money is available, and that~'~eeesaary the Mayor be athorized to execute an application for SERA labor. All mem- bers of the council present voting .aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. At this time Covncilman_Snyder arrived and took his seat at the Council table. A communication was received from the Midtown Association re- questing the Council to en~lor. se L,~*on Bills Nos. 358, 499 and 500, or the Redwine Bills Nos. `'38, X39 and 740 relative to using gasoline money for illumination in Cities as well as for Street nurvoses. No action was ta- ken on the matter, but the Mayor ordered the communication filed. A communication was received from the University of Southern California announcing their short course to be held on June 10th fio 15th inc., conducted especially for the behefit of City officials and employees offering transferrable memberships for the price of X25.00, arxi indiv - dual memberships for X5.00 to X10.00 depending on salary received. There being no objection the communication was ordered filed. Report of activities of the National Reemployment Service of- fice, by R. Y. O~Shaughnessy, Registrar reporting on .activities in his office for the last past two weeks and up to date sine the inception of the office; also health rep©rt were received for t~r~ weeks. County of San Francisco, indorsing the principle or muni- cipal ownership of San Franciscoss water front. RESOLUTION N0. 937, entitled: "A RESOLUTION OF THG CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNi~00D, CALIIURNIA, PROTESTING AGAINST TIDE ELI~dINATION OF PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX ON MOTOR VEHICLES" was read. NE{~ BLTSTT~SS An Ordinance of the City of Lynwood, California, au~ ending Ordinance 196 and prohibiting parking of motor vehicles on portions- of certain streets, was introduced and read the first time. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Meyer that said Ordinance be accepted as read the first time and pass to the second reading. An Ordinance of the City of Lynwood, California, mending Ordinance No. 194 and establishing additional ]oading zones in front of Graysons and Wheatleys, was introduced and read for the first time. It was molted by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Lake that said Ordinance be accepted as introduced and read tl~ first time and pass to the second reading. An Ordinance of the City of Lynwood, California, amending Urdinan~e No. 237 and s:stablishing additional 10 minute parking zones, was introduced and read for the first time. It was mooned by eouncil- man Meyer and seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that said Or din- ance be accepted. as introduced and pass to tYn second reading. The matter of request of Lynwood Realtors for a reduction in their license fee from X12.00 per year to ~i.00 per yorar, cams up for consideration. It was moved by Councilman Snyder arri seconded by Councilman Lake that the request be denied. -Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Lake, Beyer, Daetweiler, Snyder and Boster. Noes: None. The City Clerk s~b~itted recall petitions directed against Councilman. Cecil E. Snyder, which said petitions requested-the Coun- cil to call a special municipal election for tYe purpose of submitt- ing the prom-position as to whether or not said Cecil E. Snyder shall. be recalled from the office of member of the City Council of the City of Lynwood. The City Clerk also submitted and read him certificate on same, certifying that tree number of qualified electors who signed said petitions are not the requisite number as required by law to call a special municipal election, therefore, no action was taken other than to file the certificate and petitions. -- The followir~ demands we; GEN .
