UNIT II"ISHyD T3USIT4ESS : 1 comrnuniea ion was received from the ^ity clerk certifying that he had checked the petitions filed with him requesting the Council to call a special municipal election to determine whether or not the City shall disineorporate, as to numbers, and. he finds that the total number who subscribed their names to said. petitions :ere 962, and the required number of qualified electors to sign same would be 965, there- fore that same are not signed by the requisite number to call a special election as required by law. Councilman Lake reported on the matter of the claim of one Chas. Halbert for:::21.00 for alleged destruction to three palm trees in front of his place on ".aliforria St. , stating that as far as he could detsrrnine from his tenants and the '"aver ?'epartr.~ent there never was three palm trees in the terrace as alleged and but one little scrub tree which is sticking up there now about 5 inches tall, believing that ~Zr. Ilalbert is under a misapprehension as to the construction of the water line and believes that an assessment would be levied therefor and possi- bly thought he could collect a little to make it easier, however, no assessment was levied for the work performed. There being rlo objection, the :ay or instructed the `:ity Clerk to so notify I!~r. Halbert. The matter of application of 'poster & Kleiser to construct a sign board on Long Beach I~oulevard just south of `~Tirginia 'we. , was brought up for consideration, however, the matter was deferred until the Council can get in touch with ':ay or Koster as to his opinion in the matter.
