There being no objection, the mayor referred the ma~;ter to
the ~aJater Superintendent for study and report as to his recommendations
in the matter.
A comr;runication was received from ~;z°. a. A.Kuhle, I,ilanager of
th° Lynwood branch of Security-first 3ational Bank requesting three
fifteen minute parking zones established in front of their branch for
the convenience not only of their customers, but also the customers of
adjoining markets. T~iere being no objection, the Mayor referred the
matter to Cheef of Police TLiller and Engineer Ba~rernan for checking and
report;.. also to check advisability of granting a request for a cross-
vaalk in front of the Lyntivood Theatre, and vahether or not one side of
"'""' the c~zrbs on Louise Street, east and west of Long Beach Boulevard, and
east of Long Benc~h Boulevard on Lynwood Road should be made no-park-
ing zones in order that automobiles passing on said streets can pass.
fhe City Clerk was instructed to notify Strut Superintend-
ent Bateman about the weeds that are grotiving over the sidewalk on Lewis
Street, betvreen L_; nwood Road ~,nd hernwood Avenue , arld have sar.~ removed.

questing that .he license fee for the construction of roofs be decreas-
ed to ~12.OU per year and that general contractors engaged in new con-
str^action be exempted therefrom. There being no objection, the Iulayor
referred the matter to the Building Tns~ector to contact other builders
and see what their desire is in the matter in an effort to see if it
is going to be possible to adopt a suitable ordinance to all concerned.
A cornrnunication was received from T~~r. R. Y. O'Shaug<rnessy,
requesting permission to use the City I3urap .Truck rand 7river that the
N.R. S. office ma;r participate ii the parade to be held on June S~n.d,
in connection with play day celebration. ~i~here being no objection,

A communication was received fror:~ Chief of Police Miller ac-
companied with the resignation of John Toohey as Police Officer of the
City of Lynwood to take effect on June 14th, 1935, Chief Diller recom-
mending the acceptance of said. resignation, requesting the Council's
indulgence i~~ the matter of appointing a successor u~_til the next re-
gular meting of the City Cou~icil at which tune he will have recornrlend-
!~' anon to make . It w~~s moved by Councilman .e~~::r anal seconded by Coun-
~; cilrnan Lake that we accept the resignation of Police df ficer John
`a ~i~oohey to take effect as of June lath, 1935 as reco~~rrended by Chief

A communication in the~~of petition was received signed by
J. James and 13 others requesting that Cedar Avenue between Pe~.ch and
State- Street, be improved. There being no objection, the Iviatter was
referred to City Engineer Bateman for investigation and report back to
tree City Cou~~=cil his findings.
A communication was received in the foul of petition, signed
by -Fanny L. yle and 10 other residents on L'uclid Avenue, requesting
that the li;hts be discontinued on Euclid Avenue. There being no ob-
jection, the matter was referred to the CitJr engineer for investigation
and report.
Cit-r Attorney Boardman was instructed to check into the law
with respect to the demolition of buildings in Lynwood not yet repaired
after t~~~e earthquake, to as certain whether or not the City can force
owners to have same torn down.
The health report for the week ending June 1st, 1935, was
received, and ordered filed.
A petition was received signed by .T.O. Law and 52 other
business and professional rren requesting the City Council to pass an
ordinance to prohibit, if it can be legally do~ie, the distribution of
hand bills, unless sar~~e shall have been entered with the United States
Postal department as second class mail matter, or raise the license
fee to X100.00 per day for the distribution of advertising natter.
Iuir. Paul Strain and dir. Tom `~iTheatley addressed the Council on the mat-
ter favoring the adoption of such an ordinance.
There being no objection, the matter was turned over to the
City Attorney to check the law with respect to vrhat constitutes a paper
that is entered with the United States Postal i~eparti~ent as second
class mail matter; also if papers should state where sa~.ne is published
and ~iy whom etc . ,

A corrlr~runication was received from City Attorne;r Boardman rut-
ing on the matter of trre petitions requesting the Council to call an el-
ection to ascertain whether or not the City shall disincorporate to the
effect that it is his opinion that the City Clerk's action in r_~aking his
certificate on day 6, 1935 to the effect that the petition filed April
16, 1935 was insufficient 4~nd had failed for lack. of sufficient subscrib-
ed ended that transaction, quoting the law applicable thereto, vrhich
makes no express provision nor does it grant authority to receive and
consider a subsequent, additions or supplemental petition, nor can such
authority be inferred, especially after <,ctiori has been taken upon an
Original petition, however, in fairness to the proponents of the several ..,,,
petitions to disi:~corporate and in order that the subject may be review-
ed by the courts, he recornr,zends that a motion be made and carried to the f
effect that the oetition filed :'~pril 16, 1935 be denied for lack of suf- `
ficient subscribers; also recommendir_~ that the Clerk made his certificate
regarding the sufficiency or insufficienc~r of each of the subsequent
petitions and that action be taken on each thereof accordingly.
Thereupon it was moved by Couricilr,ian Lake and seconded by Coun-
cilman T~eyer that the petition filed :~pril 16th, 1935, requestin ~ the
Council to call a special election to determine the question of ~rliether
or not the City of Lynvrood shall disincorporate, be denied for lack of
sufficient subscribers.

ing an allotiaent of labor for the purpose of painting street name: on
the curbs in tTrre City of Lynwood.
Thereupon it was moved by Co~ancilrnan Snyder and seconded by
Council_an ~aetweiler that C. G. Boster, Mayor of the City of Ly_awood,
be and he is Y~ereby authorized and empowered to accept and agree to
the foregoing conditions in behalf of the City of Lynwood for said pro-
ject.

A communication was received from `4~Tat er Superintendent Bate-
man stating that X15,000.00 has been set up in the budget for the~fis-
cal year 1935-36, X13,400.00 for new water mains, suggesting that an
SLI3A project be cor:rr,~enced requesting labor for the installation of such
mains; also recornrnending that Iv~Tr. H. J. Grace who is now employed as
`later Foreman, salary be changed to yp130.00 per month.
Thereupon it was moved bTr Councilman Lake an~:l seconded by
Councilman Snyder that the salary of T~,r. Grace be fixed at :130.00 per
month.

A report was received from City engineer Bateman on Lighting
maintenance district ~~o. 8, of the City of L~rnwood covering fiscal year
1953-36, setting forth a total cost of :~14,146.OU for said year; also
stating that 1'ie has filed vrith the Citzr Cle rk proposed diagrar•:~ showing
the assesszrlent district referred to in resolution No. X41; also that
he has filed proposed assessment of the total ar.~ount of the costs and '".
expenses of the proposed ir.~provernent on the several dub-divisions of
land within said district in proportion to the estimated benefits to 'ue
received.

information relative to what is necessary in order to procure a reduc-
