The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in an ad3ourned regular session at the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, at 7:00 o'clock P. M. Mayor Boster in the chair. Councilmen Lake, Meyer, Snyder and Boster answered the roll call. Councilman Daetweiler was absent. It was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by Councilman Lake that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of June 18th, 1935 be approve as written. A17.members of the Council present voting aye,the Mayor declared the motion carried and it was so ordered. WRITTEN COMMUNICf-~TIONS A communication was received from Chief of Police h~Ziller re- porting on the matter of r°er~uest for barking zones, recommending that two fifteen minute parking zones in front of the -ecurity-First National Bank of Lynwood, a.nd tzvo fifteen minute narking; zones near the intersection of Platt Avenue on the same G3de of Toni Reach Boulevard be painted green; also that a red zone, creat~n~ a r.o-na.r~~~n~ zone, be established on the north side of ?ouise street from Long Beach Boulevard easterly to the cor- ner o.f hewis Street; that the same type of zone be create-~ and the curb be painted red on the north side of Lynwood Road from Long Beach Boulevard easterly to the alley which interse-cts tivith Lyn:vood Road about the loca- tion of the Church building which fronts on Lynvrood Road, to be designa- ted as no parking from 6 Y. iii. to 2 Ei. iu~.; also that a "No Parking" zone be established on the north side of uuise Street., west of Long Beach Boule yard to first driveway. Thereupon it was moved by Councillman Lake and seconded by Councilman Meyer that Chief Niil~r's recommendation wi th respect to the establishment of said ~a rking and non-parking zones be accepted and that the City Attorney be instructed to draft an ordinance covering same. - All members of the Council present voting =~ye, the l~~~ayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. A communication was received from Chief of Police Miller report- ing on the carnival proceeds held here during the Play Day celebration, stating that X98.00 has turned into the City Treasurer to appTy.on the uniforms purchased for the Lynwood band. It ,vas moved by Councilm~ Lake and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the report be accepted and a vote of thanks be extended those in ch arge for their cooperation. All. members of the Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. A communication was received from Chief of Police t+7iller recom- mending that Mr. J. Baier be extended an additional two weeks leave of absence without pay, as per his request, to extend from July 1st, to 15th. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Counci-loran Lake that the recommendation of C1,i_ef Miller be confirmed and said leave of absence be granted from Jury 1st to 15th, 1935, incl. O'Chau~;hnessp be appointed temporarily to the position of day desk sergeant to fill the additional vacancy in the Police llepartment. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Meyer that Iuir. O~Shaughnessy be appointed as day desk sergeant as recommended by Chief Miller at a salary of130.00 per month and to take effect on June r:9th, 1935; also that Mr. (0~5haug~ness~y be relieved of his duty as National Re-Employment Service Registrar and that his salary from such source cease. Chief Miller also suggested th at the appointment his recent communication to replace Mr. Toohey who resigned red until the next regular meeting. Thereupon it was moved Snyder and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the matter of successor to Mr. Toohey~~as Police Officer be deg'erred until as recommended by Chief 14~iller. DToes : A'one . .Assent: Councilman Daet~.^leiler. ~~ A communication was received from Chief of ?'olice Miller report- ing on the matter of ree~uest for pedestrian crossing in front of theatre to be lighted by spot light, suggesting that the zone now provided at Lyn- wood xoad and Long tseach ioulevard be improved with a light in the center of the zone which would li~ht the roadway, such as is installed at Hunting- ton Perk with a large red 'X°f'; also suggesting such an arrangment at Platt Street, and Long Beach Boulevard. Thereupon:. it was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by Coun- cilman Lake that Engineer Bateman be instructed to have such a type o_f iI- limunated pedestrian sign construction at the intersection of Lynwood Road ., and Long Beach Boulevar d, as per recommendation of Chief Miller, the cost tc 'i be approximately15.00. A communication was received from Chief of Police Miller, recom- mending that study be made with respect to salaires paid Police Officers, and that if possible, adjustments be made which would more conform to the work done by the various officers. There being no objection, this matter was laid over until the budget will be up for consideration. A communication was received from Mr. 0. W. James, Supervisor of Department of Recreation and Playgrounds thanking f_or the cooperation of the City Council in their celebration of Pray Day held on June 22nd, especially commen~in-^' Chien' ofl °olice Miller.
