HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1935-11-19 - CCREGULAR MEETIly'G NOVEMBER 19TH, 1935. 33 ~3 The Gity Council. of the City of Lynwood met in a regular ses- sion, at the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, at v:30 P.A~i. Mayor Koster in the chair. Councilmen Lake, Meyer, Nation, Snyder and Boster answered the roll call. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of November 5th, 1935 be approved as written. All members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: communication was received from the L. A. County League of Municipalities inviting them to attend their next session to be held at the Pacific Coast Club at Tong Beach on next Thursday night, Novem- ber 21st. ~ihere being no oh~ection, the Mayor ordered same filed sug- gesting that env that can attend so notify the City Clerk in order that reservations might be made. A communication was received from nr. ~"~. T~. Chrisman resigning from the office of Police Civil Service Commission due to his bad health. '1`he~eupon it was moved bP Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Lake that the resignation of Dr. Chrisman be accepted with regrets, and that the City Clerk be instructed to communicate with Dr. Chrisman and thank him for acting in said capacity in the past. Maynard LuRasky making ap- plication for a fortune telling license to be located at x0922 Long Brach Blvd. Thereupon it was moved. by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Coun- cilman Nation that the ar~ni.;cation be turned over to Chief of Police Mil- ler for investigation. A communication was received from Fditr Sowersby requesting that she be refunded 15.00 water rent paid in error as the subdivider, dlr. Caress furnishes the water for the tract on which her property is located. a communication was also received from Engineer Bateman to the effect that the YYater Department was in error as the owner, or subdivi- der, pay the water, therefore no sign up at 4316 Morton Road should have been taken, as said Tract No. 8'716 is served through a master meter, therefore, recommending that the refund be made to Edith Sowersby as re- quested. Thereupon. it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Coun- cilman M~ey r that the request be gPanted and that said refund in the mnount off' 15.00 be made to Edith Sowersby. A communication was received from W. T. Gough stating that on Saturdays November 16th, 1935, he was parked in front of the Science church on Lynwood Road, and as he drew away he came in contact with the flanged end of a piece of water pipe laying there, thereby cutting a large hole in the tiro thus blowing it out and also snapping the steer- ing wheel out of his hands and damaging same. Nor. Gough also addressed the Council relative to the matter. There being no ob3ection, the Mayor referred the matter to Cit~* Fingineer Bateman and Councilman Meyer to meet Mr. Gouge at ire Cit~* Hall tomorrow and settle the matter to the sa- tisfaction of all. concerned, said time to 3:30 P. At this time Mayor Boster requested Councilman Lake to take the chair as Chairman, as he wished t~ proceed with a meeting in the Clerk~a office, which Councilman ?,ak? did, and the Mayor retired from the room. Gray to conduct a dance hall at 3311 Fernwood Avenue, recommending that the application be denied, as the loca- tion is too close to two beer parlors, parking facilities are poor and the building is not suitable to such type of amusement; also that he has contacted Mrs. Uenevieve McClellan relation to her complaint and will in- terview her again when he will report further. NEW BUSINESS: ~~'aR`R~. 952, entitled: "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUN- CIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD REQUESTING AID FROM THE COUNTY REGIONAL PLANN- ING COMMISSION ON PLANNING, was read. It was moved by Councilman poster and seconded by Councilman Snyder that the Townscend Old Age Pension members be permitted to use the City Hall for their meeting on Friday night, December 27th, in lieu of the 25th, as requested through the City Clerk. All members of the Coun- cil voting aye, the Mayor deelaaAed the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. It was moved by Councilman Boster and seconded by Councilman Snyder that the City Treasurer be authorized to discontinue the Special Assessment and Tax Relief Fund when he deems advisable, and cancel and~or redeem any or all the bonds and coupons when in his discretion it is ad- visable to do so.
