Mayor Boster in the chair. Councilmen Lake, Meyer, Nation and Boster answered the roll call. Councilman Snyder was absent. Ail mem'^Prs ~~' tie Council voting aye, the Mayor de- clared the mot3_on duly Carried. trt~*~TTm~T C('T,~T.?tTNIC,~TI7N" comm~,n3ca on was received from the .press-Te1_e~ram requesting that tie Cit~T take out an ad in their snecial_ New Year's edition, cost of same being 30.00 for one-sixteenth of a page and up to ~~00.^0 for a full page add, stating that said edition will reach not only 50,000 homes in this section, but some 45,000 oi:hers to be sent through the middle west and east, and that it will afford an opaortunity for telling what the City has achieved during the year that is about at an end. Mr. K. P. Frederick, Suburban Editor, also addressed the Coun- cil about the matter, stating further that ~ynvrood is laying a sound foundation for a future, and are united in a forward move that will bring results, stating that while they ,would appreciate an ad, however, if the City cannot afford to do so, that the same favorable publicity will be given Lynwood as in the past. Considerable discussion was had relative to available funds for such purposes and the ma.iority of the Council seemed to feel that after contributing $100.00 towards the entry of a float in the Pasa- dena Tournament of Rases, no further funds are available. Mr. Paul Strain also addressed the Council regarding a spec- ial greetings edition for Christmas and New Years, stating that he had splken to the Mayor about the Council individually putting in an add of greetings and good wish for the coming year. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Nation and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the City of Lynwood insert a suitable greeting in the Lynwood ~'ress for their snecial edition, the cost not to exceed 15.00. It was moved by Matror Boster teat an ad not to exceed X25.00 be inserted in the Press Telegram for their snecial New Year's edition. There being no second, same lost for want of a second. ORtiL L0lvldiUNlliril'IUNS r. h. spiels addressed the Oouncil making application to establish the business of used car ss.les, same to be located at 11326 Long Beach F~oulevard, stating that there will be no wrecking business in connection therewith and will be kept in a tidy manner at all times in order to be a credit to the business district. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman ration that permission be granted to ~'r. ~aniels to operate steed car sales business at said address, and the Ch of of Police be authorized to issue license therefor. All members of the Council pre- sent voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion carried. ~'VRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS CONTINUED: invitation was received from the ?cos Angeles County League of. Municipalities calling attention to the next meeting to be held at Pasadena on jhursday evening, December 19th, T935, at Constance Hotel, speakers to be Franklin Lowney, Executive Secretary of California Safety Council and Ray Cato, Chief of State Highway Patrol.. There be- ing no ob3ec°tion, the Mayor ordered the communication filed requesting that as many as can attend and so notify the City, Clerk in order that reservations might be made. A communication wAS received from a Mr. C. E. Henderson, 10- 333 Virginia Ave., `youth Cate, C?~if'., making application to establish the business of auto Harts, tires and ~.zsed cars, at 10425 Long Beach Boulevard. There reing no obiection, tre matter was turned over to the Building Inspector to get additional information as to the .nature of the business and if there is to be wrecking of ca..rs in connection there- . with, etc. communication was received from Mr. J. L. Ewing, Superinten- dent of .Shelter, with contract to collect dog license for the year 1936 on a basis of 70~ to go to tYle Mate Oommission for Nrotection of Chil- e dren and Animals and 3.0~ to be retained by the City. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the City renew the contract for year 1936 and that the Mayor be authorized to ex- i acute said contract for and on behalf of the City of Lynwood. There being no objection, the Mayor instructed Chief of Police ~'liller to ~!vatcr for persons dumping tin cans and rubbish along Century Boulevard and compel them to comply-with our Ordinances with respect thereto; also that the Street Department be instructed to have any such rubbish now deposited alongsaid rii~;hway removed. UNb'INlbti~:D }~uS INESS wilding snspector immey reported on the complaint by the Guar- anty Building and Loan Association regarding the unsightly condition of the property occupied by one Paul Carpenter, located at 11810 Lindbergh ^" Street, where he operates a public garage, stating that our ordinances do not cover such circumstances, therefore, recommending that same be am- ended. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Coun- cilman Meyer that City Attorney Reuby be instructed to draft amendments to Ordinance Nos. 241 relative to Licenses and applications therefor, and the Nuisance Ordinance 170, in order to take care of the matter; also to amend Ordinance No. 241 by fixing the license for par mutual agencies at 500.00 per year, payable yearly in advance. All members of the Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. Mayor Boster reported for Mr. L. H. Decker, Auditor, that he felt that it was not his duty to check the books of the General Pipe Line Company to ascertain ~rhether or not the figures submitted with the franchise check is correct, as it would take quite an extensive study to reach Qm y decision on the matter. Mavor Boster appointed the Finance ~'ommittee, City Attorney and City Treasurer to look into the matter of returning bail put up by local bondsmen to insure their apprearance in Court, before the Council convene to approve warrant therefor, and see if such an arrangement can be legally taken care of.
