The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular ses- sion, at the City Hall, 11:531 Plaza Street, on above date, at 7:30 P. ~~i. A~ayor Boster in the chair. Councilmen Lake, Nation and Boster answered the roll call. Councilmen Meyer and Snyder were absent. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Nation that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of January 21st, 1936, be approved as written. All members of the Council present voting aye, the l:ayor declared the motion duly carried. "'RITTEP? CO~~~~~IUR?ICATIONS; -~-* A communication was received from the American Legion announ- Bing an Americanism meeting to be held at the '~'Toodrow ~~ilson School Au- ditorium on the night of rebruary 27th. There being no objection, the T~Zayor instructed the City Clerk to notify each department head about the meeting in order that they will be advised and attend if possible. x communication was received from the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County stating that they have a request for prohibiting the sale of motor vehicles on Sunday in unincorporated territory, seeking the Council's advise in the matter and if they would be willing to join with the County in adopting such an ordinance. There being no objection, the City Clerk was instructed to inform the honorable Board of Super- visors that the City Council would be willing to adopt such an ordinance, provided a County wide ordinance is adopted to include all mur~ieipalities and. unincorporated area.. A communication was received from hl~r. E. S. Cavanaugh, rep- resenting, the Columbia Fire Insurance •Company, requesting equitable patronage in connection with distribution of insurance premiums. There being no objection, the City Clerk was instructed to communicate with h7r. Cavanaugh advisin.~ him that his name will be added to the list of those to receive benefits from insurance premiums when the next policy comes up for consideration of the Council. A communication was received from the Calif ornia ~~iunicipal Utilities Association advising about meeting of a Senate Committee when they took testimony for four days from both municipal and private util.i- *^~ ties relative to the State taking over all municipal and private utili- ties and also variations or partial take-over; also announcing about another meeting to be held in rresno at 10 A. T.T. on 2~ionday, February 10th, 1936. There being no objection, the I:ayor ordEred the communi- cation filed., instructing the City Clerk to contact the League to as- certain whether or not they are appearing in behalf of Cities in con- nection with such meetings. A communication was received from the Atchison, Topeka and Santa ~'e Railway Co. with Resolution attached, requesting the Council to adopt sarne in favor of their application before the Railroad. Commission to maintain a motor Coach Service parallelin> their railway lines which will give them the privilege of handling business from point to point in California, as well as transcontinent~._1 at a rate of 12¢ as com- pared with 2~ now Glared, tickets to be transferrable from bus to train and vice versa, one of said routes to go through Lynwood via Long Beach Boulevard. Briley and3rown a~dressed the Council on behalf of their application stating in addition to their communication that if permission is granted by the Railw~.y Commission there Gvill be ttiwo busses each way through Lynwood daily and will permit service not only to other States, but to points in California beyond Los Angeles and Seal Beach from Lynwood. A communication was received from Lynwood Electric Co. sub- mitting contract to furnish lamps at a discounts of 23o for standard pages and 13o for broken packages for a contract of ~~300.00, and a dis- count of 25 .and 15`o for purchases of ~~600.00 or over. There being no objection, the matter was turned over to tine City Engineer for recom- mendation at the next meeting of the Council. 3 ~l~ A communication was received from the League of California Tluni- cipalities giving information on proposed liquor legislation, civil ser- vice ordinances available and additional information on 'TIn Lieu" tax. The T~ayor instructed the City Clerk to have copies made thereof for each member of the Council. Application from I~1rs. Florence Hillman, T1irs. Lucy Getchell and V~lalter P;Zellinger to service on the election Board at the City Election to be held in April, 1936. There being no objection, same were ordered filed until next meeting when election officers will be considered fur- ther. Reports of activities of Police Dspartriient, City Court, Li- oense Department and Health Department were received, and the City Clerk was requested to have copies made for each member of the Council for ' study. Rogers for transfer of funds from the General Fund to pay for delinquent bonds and coupons in certain 1915 Bond Act improvement districts and a levy at 10~ tax per X100.00 assessed valuation in connection therewith, same being serviced on each member of the Council. Said matter was referred to the City Attorney for study. A communication was received from Horace B. Kimmey, reporting on the application of ~Tr. Sam Ryman to open a used lumber, sash and door, and pipe yeard at 11915 L. B. Blvd, stating that he proposed to have same back 75 feet from Long Beach Boulevard and will build a 7 foot fence enclosing his proposed yard which fence will be painted. R"x. Kimmey also addressed the Council on the matter stating that he sees no objection to such an enterprise and therefore recommending that same be granted. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Nation and seconded by Councilman Lake that said application be granted and the License Col- lector be authorized to issue license therefor. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Nation that the Chief of Police be instructed to have a green ten min- e ute arking zone painted in front of 3316 and 3318 Imperial to service the ~esd Store and the Sewing project, and the City Attorney be in- strudted to draft an amendment to the parking ordinance to include such cones.
