M. hTayor Boster in the chair. Councilmen Ivieyer, Nation, Snyder and Boster answered the roll call. Councilman Lake was absent. A communication was received from the Los Angeles County League of T~Zunicipalities inviting the Council to attend ti~ei.r next meetir~~ to bF held at the campus of the University on Thursday, June 18th, 1936, at 6:30 P. i'n. All who care to attend were urged to let the City Clerk know in order that reservations might be made. An invitation was received from the Board of Directors of the City o-f Pasadena to attend the ceremonies commemorating the fifti- eth Anniversary of the Incorporation of the City of Pasadena at the Rose Bowl on the evening of June nineteenth at si.x forty-five o'clock. The invitation was received and accepted with thanks. =A communication was received from the Automobile Club of Southern California calling attention to the bad drainage at~ 111th St., and Alameda and t.~at 4rher~ it rains a pool of water collects there thus causing cars to skid and is a menace to business establishments in that area. A cornmuricatian was received from the Lyntivood Press peti- tioning the Council to do sometrling to elirr;inate tYie distribution of ,outside advertising rlediums, statir:4 -chat naturally outside publica- tions are devoted to their own interests and to build up their own comrriunities through their own merchants and have no qualms at sacri- ficing our own merchants in order to do so; also that it is a .serious menace to the peace and welfare of our City as the news items are evidently of secondary importance to their capacity for providing gossipy starves and untrue statements for the satisfaction of unscru- pulous and anti-social_ groups, therefore sug~;estirg that the Council devote serious thought to the matter and evolve effective legal mea- sures for protecting our business and civic life from the disrupting and pan-constructive efforts of outsiders to gain a foothold and live off the business that is rightfully that of ol~r local businessmen. T'ayor Boster stated that he was ~~rorking vvith a committee on a plan on the matter, therefore the matter was referred to the A~1ayor to perfect ?pis plan and get some action thereon in the rear future and report back at the next meeting of the Council. A communication was received from the County League of Municipalities requesting that the Cauncil appoint one of their group to serve on the Board of D irectors. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Nation and seconded by Councilman Meyer that Ma;;ro r Koster be appointed to serve in said capacity on be'~alf of the City of Lynwood. All members of the Council present voting afire, the mo tion was duly carried. It eras moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the City Counci l request the aid of the Special Assessment Committee appointed by the honorable Board of Supervisors of Log Angeles County to work tivith a committee of Three selected from t'~:e special assessment distric ts, and that the Mayor and City Treasurer be instructed to jointly appo int said committee. All members of the City Council present voting, th e Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered.
