The City Council of the City of Lynwood 'met in a regular at the City Hall, 11331 Plata Street, on above date, at 7:30 Mayor Boster in the chair. Councilmen Lake, Meyer, Nation and Boster answered the roll Councilman Snyder w€~s absent. It was moved by Cotmc3lman Meyer and seconded by Councilman Nation that the minutes of the regular meeting of June 16th, 1936 be approved as written. All members of the Council present voting aye, the A~avor declared the motion duly carr~ed~and it was so ordered. '"~??ITTEN COMPINNICATIONS common ca on was received from J. `L. Pomeroy, M.D. of the Los Angeles County health department stating that they are making a ~^^ sur~fiey as to the amount of work that is being performed by the De- partment in Lynwood on enforcement of City Ordingncas in order to arrive at an equitable charge for such health services. There being no ob~eetion, the ~+~ayor ordered the communication filed. At this time Councilman Snyder arrived and took his seat. A communication was received from Mr. Floyd B. Rowlee, Realtor; requesting the Council to take some action in connection with telephone service so that'it will not be necessary to have a Campton prefix for extension service, stating that he wishes such service, but that he does not want to have his number labelled with a Compton prefix when in fact he is in Lynwood. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Nation and seconded `by Councilman Lake that the Chairman of the Utility Com- mittee be instructed to communicate with the Southern California Tele- phone Company regarding the matter and see if a satisfactory solution cannot be reached. A communication was received from City Attorney Ruby to `the effect that he has been served with Summons in a case in Superior Court where the Southern California Telephone has sued the City of Lyri~rood to recover the sum of X530.8'7 taxes paid under protest, the plaintiff desiring that he enter into a stipulation, however; that~he does not believe that proper service has been made, therefore suggesting that the City keep out of court until it is properly served and brought in. There being no obiection, the Mayor drdered the communication filed, A communication was received from Mr. Herbert Rehfeld re- questing that the Council authorize a refund far water bill paid by tenant and their office; stating that Mrs. Bryant has credited the account two months in advance for the over~3avment, however, inasmuch as they are na longer responsible for the water bill, requesting that same be refunded to them. It was moved by Councilman >~leysr and seconded by Councilman Snyder that the matter be referred to the Chairman of the YYater Com- mittee with power to act. Brewster stating that the weed department in burning weeds, burned their hedge, asking the City to remove the entire hedge from their property without cost r^ to them. there being no objection, the matter was referred to the City Engineer with power to act. A communication was received from Chief of Police Miller re- commending that vacations be granted to the Police Department as pro- vided in Ordinance No. 229. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by Councilman 'Lake that vacations be granted as provided in said Ordinance for the Police and Fire Department; also that two weeks vacation be allowed all monthly employees with 'pay, and arrange for the time of taking same with the Department head. All members of the Council voting aqe, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. A communication was received from the Chief of Police re- commending that Morris chandler he appointed as vacation relief officer as he is on the top of the el~irle list, at a salary of X100.00 per mont__h: Thereupon it was moved be rn~zn^ilman Nation and seconded by Councilman Lake that the recommendation o~' tre ^h~i e~' of Police be accented and Mr. Morris Chandler be appointed Pc,7_ice 0~'ficer of the City of Lynwood for vacation period, at a salary of X100.00 per month.
