The City Council. of the Cites of>?",vn~vood met in an adjourned regular session, at the City Hall, 1.1~~1 plaza Street, on above date, at 7:30 ~'. ~. Ma~*or Boster in the chair. Councilmen Ls-ke, Nation, Snyder•and Bolter answered the roll call. Councilman Meyer was absent. VyRITTEN CUt~iti,UNICr~'1'I ONS communication was received fr©m Building Inspector Kimmey reporting that the building occupied by the sewing Unit at 11181 Long Beagh Blvd., is unsafe for occupancy, as the rafters and ceiling foists ha vq only a 4" bearing on the north wall, stating that this wall is nat bonded to the west wall whatever as the two walls meet at their corners, and,the 3uneture is closed with metal lath and plaster; statin further that-where this north wall meets the east wall, the bond is 50~ destroy- ed by the action of the recent earthquakesas many of the brick have fallen, stating that a repetition of a similar q~.ake would topp~,e the north wall, causing a collapse of the rood of the occupants. There- upon it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded bq Councilman Snyder that said building at above address be deglared a public nuisance, same being located on Lot T34, Tract 25518 All members of the Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was-so ordered. It was moved by Councilman Nation and seconded by Councilman Lake that the City Attorney be instructed ,to contact the owner and diplomatically attempt to vacate the builclingofor the purpose of saf- ety of Tife. All members of the Co„neilnresent voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried ana it ~~as so ordered. A communication was received from the State Commission for Protection of Children and Animals explaining more in detail the ser- vices teat they have rendered the City in connection `vit?-' their corr- itract for cold-action of dog ?icenses, calling attention to their work along humane lines, stating that the Society have endeavo~~ed to give Humane Education to Children; also that they rendered service to the City in connection with cases of cruelty to children and animals, by gathering evidence and prosecuting; the same; also in settling neigh- borhood quarrels relative to their pets; also give immediate service to those calling (without toll charge). •Councilman Lake addressed the Council to the effect that in view of the additional service that is being rendered b y having local telephone servi ~ and in view of the splendid cooperation given the Police Department~`o~ner services rendered by the Commission, he duly moves that the contract for the collection of dogs and "dog' ~M licenses in connection therewith be awarded to the State Commission for Protection of Children and Animals be awarded to the State Com- mission for Protection of Children and Animals on a 70~ basis, 30~ being retained by the City of Lynwood, said Commission to also pick up dead dags and cats when called upon to do so, which motion was duly seconded by Councilman Snyder and upon roll call showed the rol- lovring result Ayes: Councilmen Lake, Nation, Snyder and Bolter. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Meyer. A map was submitted drafted bn City Engineer Bateman, pre- liminary to the vacation of t±~at rnrtinn of Magnolia Avenue lying easterly of Bullis Road in the Cite of T~m~ood. It was moved by Councilman ~'nvder and seconded by `'ouncilman Nation that said Allan be an-~roved. Roli Ca71: Armes: Councilmen Lake, Nation, Snyder and Boster. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Meyer. Thereupon an Ordinance, eneitled: "An Ordinance of the City of Lynvaood, Calif ornia, declaring the necessity for and vacating and clos- ing a part of Magnolia tivenue in Lynwood, Calif ornia", was introduced and read for the first time. It was moved by Councilman ivation and seconded by Councilman Lake that same be accepted as read the first time and pass to the second reading. Noes: None. Absent : Councilman Meyer . It was moved by Councilman Nation and seconded by Councilman Snyder that the City Clerk be instructed to draw a warrant for 1.00 in favor of Mattie B. Vilven for payment of the consideration contained in said quitclaim deed. Roll Call Ayes: Councilmen Lake, Nation, Snyder and Boster. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Meyer. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded bg Councilman Lake that the City Engineer be instructed to lower the sidewalk in front of Lot 381, Tract 2551 to the proper grade to conform to the rest of the sidewalk; also to construct sidewalk between existing curb and sidewalk on the south side of said Lot on Fernwood Avenue, and to round off the c©rner at Fernwood Ave. and Long Beach Boulevard in front of said Lot. Roll Call : Ayes: Councilmen.Lsue, Nation, Snyder and Boster. Noes : T?one. Absent: Councilman Meurer. It was moved by councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Snyder that the meeting adjourn to December 15th, 1936, at T30 P. M.
