The City ~lerx announced that in the absence of the Mayor, a motion would be in order f'or the appointment of a temporary Chairman snd I~Iayor pro tem. ~~hereupon it was moved by Councilman T+~eyer and sec- onded by Councilman Lake that Councilman iJation be appointed Chairman and Mayor pro tem. All members of the Council present voting aye, the City Clerk declared the motion duly carried. Thereupon Councilman Nation took the chair. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman. Meyer that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of December 15th, 193:6 be approved as written. Allmembers of the Council present voting ,,~,,, aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: communication was received from Mr. Marvin Wood calling at- tention to a very dark condition that exists on San Jost St., request- ing information on, the status of same. There being no objection, the. Matter was referred to Councilman Meyer, Mayor Boster and ~t.neer Bate- man ~vho previously served on other complaints, to investigate the mat- ter . Al ]. members of the Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared tre motion ~?uly carried. Report of activities of Police, Fire and City Court Depart- ments for month of December, 196, were received; also health report for weeks ending December 19Lri and 2E~th; ~:lso application was received from Ray D. B. cello for work on ~tre~t Departr~ient. `hhere being no objection, same were ordered filed. The hour of 8 P. Tvi. having arrived, said time being the hour fixed for the receiving of bids for the purchase of a truck for use of the 4'~ater and Street Dez~artments as ,advertised for in the hynwood Press according to law. It was moved by ~'ouncilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the Bids be publicly opened and declared. All members of the Council present voting aye, the T~ayor declared the mo- tion duly carried and it was so ordered. The following firms submitted bids in the following total amounts: Standard Auto Body Works: Item No. 2 ,~ 542.50 G,,r Wood Industries, Inc.: Item No. 2 539.50 Ar°t Hall (Ford Dealer): Item N`o. 1 and No. 2. 1,518.89 including Calif. There being no ob iection, the bids were re~'erre~. to ~'nr?ine~ Bateman for checking and recommendation. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Build ng nspector immey addressed the Council on the matter of suitable roofing; ordinance, submitting copy of one used by the City of Long Beach. There being no objection, ~,r. riimmey was requested to have one draf ted patterned of ter the one in use in Long Beach and the Huntington 'ark Ordinance with respect to permit fees charged, for con- sideration of the City Council. k bill was presented in the amount of X12.88 for dollar day signs from Carson Sigh Co. No action was taken thereon, but the Cou~n- ci1 agreed that this bill shoul be paid by the merchants as the Coun- cil agreed only to furnish the 100.00 of Street decorations that were purchased at that time. 59 A bill was presented from the L. A. Times in the amount of 8.3E for an add inserted therein. No action was taken thereon, but same-was laid over until Mayor Boster is present when further detail can be learner regarding same. Nis"t BUSINESS : It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Meyer that all employees of the City of Lynwood be allowed an increase of salary in the amount of 3.00 each for the first half of January, 1937 only. Absent : Mayor Boster, A contract was received from the Gilmore ~1 Company bein~ a continuation of former contract for gasoline, quoting prices of 142 for first grade structure ~aso7_{ne; 12~~ for second grade structure, ?nd 12~ for third grade str. uctzare gasoline, per gallon. There being no objection, the City Cler~~ was instructed to notifq the Gilmore Oil.Com- '"'~ pang teat t~+e gasoline heretofore furnished has not been very satisfac- torn, therefore, the City Mans to discontinue rec?i~ring deliveries from their firm unless game can be furnished for the same nriee as hereto re- ceived. Certified excerpts from the minutes of the Gity Council of the City of South Gate as of December 28th, 1936, were received, wherein they request jurisdiction from the City of Lynw ood to make certain itn- ~rovements to that part of Tweedy Boulevard lying within the City of ynwood, same to be a W. P. A. pro3ect and to consist of concrete walks, curbs and gutters and a pre-mixed pavement, said work to be done without cost to the City of Lynwood and to abbuting property owners.
