The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular ses- sion., at the City Hall, 11331 Plaza ~Stret, on above date, at 7.3~~ ~'. M. Mayor Boster in the chair. Councilmen Lake, Meyer, ~T~ti.on, Snyder and Roster answered the roll call. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the minutes of tie prev~t rn~s rea~.al_ar meeting; of January 5th, 1937 be anpro~ed as written. There being no objection, tirlc~ communication was ordered filed and all were urged to attendand to notify tree ~iLyi:lerk if they intend to do attend in order that reservations rriight be made. A petition was receaved signed by Violet B. Holt and 19 others ....,, wishing to have ttze street light on Flower Street, between Peach St. and State Street relighted at night as soon as possible because it is nec- essary. There being no objection, the matter was referred to Councilman Meyer and Engineer Bateman for investigation and action if needed. A certified Resolution was received from the Board of Super- visors of Los Angeles County wherein they suggest to exercise foresight and vision in meeting anticipated growth ~.vhicr is expected. to eclipse all previous periods of economic development in Los Angeles County, and in building new homes they should not be permitted to be located in areas where flood or f°ire hazards may lurk with possible loss of life, bespeaking the cooperation of all departments of the County government in looking ahead on matters which might pertain to them in the future, calling upon all cities of the County to anticipate their population increases and to join constructively for a greater Southern California. A communication was received from Geo. S. West requesting that the condition on the alley east of :~anta Fe Avenue, between Burton and T3anning Avenues, be looked into, stating; i,hat Lt~e last time this road was worked,two years ago, no extra attention was given to the mud holes, consequently they have staadily grown worse until traffic is now de- touring over his ground in order to get throug h. `There being no objec- tion, the matter was referred to Engineer Bateman for investigation and report back to the Council his disposition of the matter. UNnINIStiF;D B?T" TNFSS ngineer Bateman reported in ti^rriting the results in checking the bids for purchase of a new truck for use of the Street and '"~Jater De- partments, reporting that Art Hall of the Ford Agency slabmitted the low bid in the amount of X1,518.89 for chasis and body of 5 ton capacity, being delivery price, including California State Sales Tax, weight fee and certificate and license plates and in lieu tax for the yearT937, therefore recommending that said bid be accepted as it wi21_ better suit the needs of the Department. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Co~ancilniar~ T~^eyer that; the recommendations of Engineer Bateman in said matter 1~e accented -^•nd that I~~r. NEVI BUSINESS ~was~moved by Councilman Nation and seconded by Councilman Snyder that the old men be allowed to use the room in the back of the City Yard on Chester Street during rainy weather and when it is too cold to be outside vahen the SERA is not using same as a pay-off s~tion. All members of the Council. voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. A communication was received from Chief of Police Miles re- commending that Officer M. E. Chandler be employed as regular Police ~ffieer or the City of Lynwood at a salary of 130.00 per month as his services have proven satisfactory during. his probationary period. Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman .Snyder that the recommendations of- Chief Milbr be accepted and that Police Officer Chandler be employed as regular office at a salary of ~~130.00 per month beginning January 1st, 1.937. RESOLUTION N0. 977, entitled: "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF LYr3~;4'OOD PETITIONING THE POSTAL DEPARTMENT OF mHE UNITED STATES TO I?i- ?r~ ~U3A'1'EZ,Y PU"CnASE AN AVAILAB?'~E SITE AND CONSTRUCT 1^IITHIN THE CITY OF LYNWOOD A NEW POST OFFICE BUILDING", was read. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Meyer that said Resolution No. 977 be adopted.. Roll Call' Ayes: Councilmen Lake, Nieyer, Nation, Snyder and .Boster. Noes: None. The City C~.erk announced that two insurance pol-icies expire as of January 30th, IQ'ry, in the amount of 50,000.00 each covering the Citv Hall and o+her buildings a.~a.inst loss by fire, former poli- cies having 'peen written by Messrs. Floyd B. Rowlee and A. L. Young. P~layor Boster submitted proposal in connection with the instal- lation of Neon signs at both ends of Long Beach Boulevard designating the City limits as 'Lynwood", submitting contract from Neon Products Sign Co. be accepted and the Mayor be authorized to execute same for and on behalf of tre City of Lynwood. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Lake, Meyer, Nation, Snyder and Boster. Noes: None. The City Clerk submitted check in the principal amount of ~P59.C0 from H.E. Zeiser for business license, which is les~r penal- ties that has accrued since January 15th, and because same was not received and tendered until January 16th, he had no power to issue s~ license therefor witiuflut the penalty as provided by Ordinance No. 265; also stating that Lynwood Bootery were offering payment without penalty. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Lake that the City Clerk be authorized to issue license there- f or without the penalties, and that the 10 ~° penalties as required by Ordinance No. 265 be waived until February 1st, and the 15~ penalty be waived until February 14th, 1937, and that warrants be included with the list of demands for return of any penalties charged since Jan. 15th, 1937. It was moved by Councilman Nation and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the foreman of the Water Department be instructed to make a quarterly inspection of ali fire hydrants to ascertain that same are in good order and to render a report of same to the Fire Chief and City Council regarding same quarterlc.
