Councilmen Lake, ~~eyGr, ~~ation, Unyder and Boster answered the roll call. It was moved by Councilman Nieyer and seconded by Councilman Nation that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of March 16th, 1937 be approved as written. Allmembers of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. 1~7RITTEN COR1fP~~LTNICATI0N5: A communication was received from the Municipal Fiscal Officer; of Southern California inviting the City officials to attend their meeting at the General Motor Assembly Plant ~3vhen the City of South Gate are hosts. All members of. the City Council were requested to at- tend and if so to inf orm the City Clerk in order that reservations might be made . A communication was received from.VVm. R. Ellerman, 3587 Platt Ave. calling attention to a bad hole in thee-Street in front of said ad- dress requesting that same be taken care of; also to the bad condition of the sidewalk. Thereupon it was ordered that the matter be referred to the City Engineer and "treet Commissioner for action. A bulletin on leP;is~~tinn rending or having been passed by the state Legislature was received, a~ was ordered filed. A communication was received from the pacific Electric Rail- v!~a~ Comranv, stQting teat they wish to construct a spur track across Centur~r Boulevard for re-arrangment of trackage serving the General Motors Corporation and rl NI. Jorgensen Co., requesting the authoriza- tion of a communication~~he Railroad Commission advising that the~City of Lynv~rood does not object to the construction of the track across said Century Boulevard. Thereupon it was moved by councilman Nation and seconded by councilman ~uleyer trla~c the i.ity clerk be authorized to com- municate with the .railroad ~orrrrnission of the Mate of California to the effect that the City of Lynvrood have no objection to said Southern California Pacific ttailway Company (P. E. tt. R.Co. ) to construct another track across Century Boulevard at Alameda Blvd., in order that they can accommodate said Corporations. A communication was received from the California Municipal Utilities Association giving resume of bills before the State Legisla- ture and those having been adopted, requesting the City to become mem- bers, the membership fee being12.00 per year. There being no objec- tion, the Mayor ordered the communication filed and no membership was t~.ken out as it was felt that the League of California Municipalities covers the field throroughly, and therefore said sum would be unneee esss~ary expenditure. Miller, Chief of _Police attaching a certified copy of minutes of the regular meeting held inthe.city of South Gate of their City Council v~herein they approve ex- penditure of X211.00 for two flasher type strap signals at the intersec- tion of State Street and Tweedy Boulevard, and four Flasher type stop signals at the intersection of Long Beach Blvd. and Tweedy Blvd., cal- ling attention to the increase in traffic problems at tweedy Boulevard .caused by the General Motors plant, being esx~ecialTy acute at the hours of the day and evening when their force of men change shifts, therefore recommending that a four way stop ba made there, which vfaa.ld tend to slow traffic on Long Beach Boulevard in. that area. _ considerable discussion on the matter ensued, and it seemed to be the concensus of opinion that considerable criticism would result fromthe installation of a strop sign on Long Beacn Boulevard at Tweedy .Boulevard, which was the case ~~rhen one was established at RQulford Ave. on Long Beach Boulevard some tjm~ ado. ~4 Therefore, it was duly moved b-- Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Snyder that we instruct tie rh~ef of Police to instruct the City of South Gate of their oni-ni on ~ s 1-n a Roizlevard stop on Long P-each Boule yard at Tweed~r Rovlevard, and f1Tri-~er i of orm3ng them that probably a traffic officer could re st~.tioned at s^id location during the rush period and t!^e Cit~r of LvnT~rood a.nd south Gate could coon~ra~;e with re- spect to tee time to be given said matter b-r each City's roll ce dexzart- ment. A report of activities on the matter of e.ompromise settlement of Mattoon Act bonds in the district known as A. ~: i. District IVo. 1.9 was received from 1~~ orney rfobei°t A. ~.ofitt. 'i°he City clerk was instructed to have a copy made for each Councilman for his study. Reports were received from the City Court, City License Collec- tor, and health department. The License Collector requested that Mr. =-~wey Evans now building Inspector beappointed as Deputy License Collector. ThereuQon it was moved by Councilman Nation and seconded by Coun- cilman Snyder that the Council approve the appointment of Dewey Evans now Building Inspector be appointed as Deputy License Collector. ~~s re- quested by the LicensF Collector, subject to bond as required by Ordin- ance. All members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. The Cit~T Clerk stated that a lady that is the o~~ er of Lot 229, Tract 5222 at State and Long Beach Blvd. is interested in building on said Lot, but on account of the small area that it covers it will be impossible for her to do so unless the Council waive the set back line of IO feet as established on Long Beach Blvd., north. of Century Boule- vard~ There being no objection, the matter was referred to the Build- ing ommitte~e for investigation and report. H report vas received from Oity attorney Ruby on the matter of suit filed against the pity by one Rogers for collection of delinquent bonds in District "k~" of the 1915 bond issue, stating that the City's demurer had been sustained, stating that the plaintiff has 10 days to answer, stating that he will keep the Council advised with respect to further developements in the case. The hour of 8 P. N1. having arrived, said time being the hour fixed for continuining the hearing on the matter of Master Plan for zoning the Citq of Lyn~.vood for building purposes as presented by the Planning Commission of said City of Lynwood. Thereupon RESOLUTION N0. 981, entitled "RESOLUTION IN RELA- TION TO CHANGES IN ZONING REPORT", was read.
