Councilman Nation was absent.
It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman
Meyer that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of April 20th,
1937 be approved as written. All members of the Council present vot-
ing aye, theMayor declared the motion duly carried.

LLB c-ommunication was received from theylanning Commission of
the City of Lynwood stating that they Ind approved tom. e changes in zoning
as recommended by the City Council and are to hold their hearings on
same in the near future.
rl~he ylanning Commission also requested that the Planning Com-
mission initiate uaroceedings before the Railroad Commission of the
State of California wherein they make application for reduction of
rates as affecting the Street goose-neck type lights unless the South-
ern Ca lifornia Edison Company see fit to make a voluntary reduction.
The Planning Commission also called attention to the con~es-
ted condition existing at the fo1lo~Rrn~ intersections: Imperial and
Long Beach Blvd., TTR~Ped,,T an-? T~onm aea^~ ~lv~?.; Atlantic a.nd Imperial
Blvd, sug~;estin~ teat a survey be made ~~' t~P situation.

Snyder teat the Chief of Police be authorized to purchase the Flasher
type stop signals at the intersections recommended in his letter of
,April 6th, 197 for the cost of y~211.00 for six signals.

It was moved b,y oaunc il~ian Snyder and seconded by Councilmen
TvTeyer that the Chief of Polc_e be instructed to secure prices on the block
types signals and to get information on as to whether or not some finan-
cial aid can be secured for the purchase of same from some other govern-
mental agency. All members of tee Council voting aye, the Mayor declar-
ed the motion duly carried.
Discussion was had regardint the Hari-mutuel agency notiv opera-
ting in the City of L~,m~~rood at the corner o~' rern~~~ od and Long Beach
Boulevard, and regarding recent rulings by Attorney General ~'~Jebr, the
Council members stating that because of such rulings that said business
is not a legal one and the law cannot be interpreted as ruled by City
Attorn~r Ruby when the agency !,vas permitted to open. Therefore, it
was moved by Councilman Nation and seconded by Councilman :;nyler that
the license issued to the Lymvood Jockey Club be revoked and that the
Chief of Police be instructed to see trot the established is closed.

A communication was received from Pvr. ~d. '~~. Jones submitting
his resignation as d rriember of the planning ~amc,ission due to pressure
of other duties and responsibilities. 'lher°eu ~ooxi it was moved by Coun-
cilman veyer and seconded by ~ouncilrnari Lake that she resib~ation be ac~-
cepted with regrets and that he be thanked for the splendid cooperation
in serving heretofore and for the services rendered. All members of the
Council voting aye, the lvlayor declared the motion duly parried.
It was moved by Counci>?rnan Nation and seconded by councilman
I.Ieyer that N.r. Crew !Naite ~e appointed as a member of the Planning Com-
mission to fill the vacancy created b`T the resignation of Air. bPJm. V~J.
Jones, said term ending April 1st, 1941. All members of the Council
voting eye, the T~~ayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so or-
dered.

ning Commission to fill the vacanc~T created rtT the resignation of Steve

P~Ieyer that the Cit?T Attorney be ~.nstructed to initiate ,proceedings for
presentation to the Railroad Commission tirrherein the City of Lyntivood
requests reduction in the Street lighting rate a.s affecting the overhead
goose-neok type lamps.
