M. B~ayor Bost er in the chair. Councilmen Lake, Beyer, ration, Snyder and Boater answered the roll call : It was moved bu Councilman Lake and seconded b Councilman Sny- der that the minutes of the previous regular melting of ~$y 18th, 1937, and of the Special meeting of day 26th, 1937 be approved as written. AlI members of the Council present voting aye; the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. ~RT~'_t'R'~N .Olt[M[1Tt3T CATIONS ; ` A communication was received from the University of Southern Cal- - ifornia school of Government announcing their Ninth Annual Institute of Government to be held Tune 14-18th , inclusive, 1937,~offering transferrable membership at X25.00 each and individual membership fee of ~y10.00 each. Noes: None. °- ~- ` A communication was received from the City Treasurer ..announcing that sutherity has been received autho ruing extension of a Special Assess- ment S'urvep, stet ing that heretofore he has acted as Sponsor, but due to the fact that nr. xobert'~A. i~offitt has bean employed as Coordinator, it s'eoms that it would be more effective if he were substituted as Sponsors representative, therefore recommending that such transfer be made. Moffitt be appointed as the City's Sponsor for the W. P. A. project now approved for special assessment survey. All members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declar®d the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. ° It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Beyer that the City i3lerk be authorized to employ a stenographer for tempor- ary work on extra work caused by the work in connection with IIattoon Act ' problem at a salary of ;p20.00 per week, •-- ~~ Hol-1 hall: Ayes: Councilmen fake, Beyer, Nation, Snyder and ~ostsr. A communication was received from the~riay and Lairy Fiesta an- noun~cing their festivity on August 27 and 28th, 1937, requesting the Gity ~`to submit a suitable float for entry in the parade. `fhere being no object- ifln the Mayor referred the matter to the Promotion Committee. A Legislative bulletin was received from the League of California Municipalities reporting on progress on bills before .the Legislature and inasmuch as copies had been furnished all members of the Council and no action was necessary at this time, no action was taken thereon. A communication was received from yrs. Florence Hillman and F. T,. Hillman, Mrs. Ida Ryman and Sam $ymasi protesting against proposed change in license fee for the sale of fireworks; also petition signed by `~eo. v~. Mor®houss and 9 others requesting that same be left as is; also dirs. M. E. Hesse also wrote along the same line. ' fir. Robert B. Whiteside, manager of a Fireworks warehouse in Lyn- wood, requesting that no change be made in the rate of license; also Carl Morehouse spoke on the matter. After due consideration of the matter, no action was taken other than an Ordinance, entitled: " An Ordinance of the City of Lynwood amending r Section 2 of Ordinance 234 by providing that fire crackers may be discharged during all the days that they are permitted to be sold., was read for the first time. It was moved by Councilmen Lake and seconded by Councilman Snyder that laid Ordinance be accepted as read the first time and pass to the sec- ond reading. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Lake, Meye r, Nation , Snyder and Boater. Noes : None . r --'-- ~- ~ tl~ A communication was received from IViss Jeanette Reynolds, rte- corder of Job ~ s Daughters, stating that the Job ~ s Daughters voted on having-a plot of ground on the boulevard where they would plant flowers stating that they decided on the northwest corner of Lang Beach Blvd., and Louise Street, if possible. There being no objection, the Mayor re- ferred the matter to the Beautification Committee for consideratf©n. A communication was received from M. R. Bowen, City Engineer of 'w~hittier and Secretary of Gasoline Tax Committee enclosing copy of Hesolutio~i adopted by Committee. Thereupon RESOLUTION N0. 988 providing that the Board of Supervisors set aside from the ~7,400~ 000, the maximum amount al lowed by law for special assessment relief ar3d ~ that~.a~~mnimum of ~1, 500, 000 of that fund be set aside for relief of ad valorem special assessment districts, was read. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Lake that said Resolution No.-988 be adopted.- - Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Lake, Beyer, Nation, Snyder and Boster. Noes: None. Report from the Gity Court for month of Nay and weakly report from Health Department was received. TTNFTNTfi,~T] ~T~~"TN i;;;~• An Ordinance of the City of Lynwood, California, repealing Or- dinance No. 274 of said City , which provides for the -°E stablishing. and Regulating of pari-mutual agencies, and repealing sub-section $3 of Section 26 of Ordinance No. 265 which provides for licensing of pari- mutuel agencies, was read. It was moved by Councilman Meyer and second- ed by Councilman Snyder that. said Ordinance be accepted as read the first time and pass to the second reading. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Lake, ~ieyier, 'ration, Snyder and Boster. Noes: None. The matter of application for trailer camp. at the end of Los Flores Boulevard as requested by hrs. Edna Tribble at the previous r.~eet- ing was again considered. ° A Petition was also received from Frank Gerfen and signed by 9 others •protesting the establishment of a trailer camp, requesting the Council to refuse a permit. - Councilman Nation addressed the Council to the effect that the Committee that was appointed to investigate have done so and wish to report that they would recommend that the permit be denied fora trailer camp as request because of the lack of facilities there and as it is a dead end street and otherwise it would not be for the best interests of the residents residing in that immediate territory. Audit report for quarter ending March 31st, 1937 was received from Crenshaw, Diehl and Y~right. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Meyer that same be accepted and ordered filed.
