REGULAR 11~EETING FEBRUARY 1ST, 1938.
The City Council of the City of Lynvrood met in a regular
session at the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, a.t 7:30
P. M.
In the absence of T~~ayor Boster, the meeting was called_ to
order by the City Clerk and upon roll call showed the following
present:
Councilmen Lake, Meyer and Snyder.
Councilman Nation and Mayor Boster were absent.
The City Clerk announced that in the absence of Mayor Boster
a motion would be in order for the appointment of a temporary Cha.ir-
inan and Mayor pro tem. Thereupon it wa_s moved by Councilman Lake
and seconded by Councilman ~~eyer that Councilman Snyder act in said
capacity. Motion was carried and it was so ordered.
Thereupon Councilman Snyder took the c3~air as Chairman.
It wa_s moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman
"Meyer that the minutes of the previ ou s adjourned regular meeting of
January 27th, 1938 be approved as written. All members of the Coun-
cil present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION'S:
A communication was received from Robert A. Moffitt report-
ing that he has been successful in securing another W. P. A. project
to assist in our ~Tattoon Refunding program, the never appropriation
being X7,068.00. There being no objection, the Mayor pro tem ordered
the communication filed.
A comr~unication v~ras received from Mrs. James A. Burk, Secre-
tary of the co-Ordinating Council of Lynwood requesting the patroling
of Lynwood Junior High School Grounds during the time of dances t~rhich
occur every two weeks, and to have a police guard. on the grounds
with an appearance of the Police occasionally at the gymnasium door.
Mrs . R. V . TL~TcComb also a.d.dressed the Council on the matter,
stating that they will have their next dances on February 4th and
18th .
After due consideration of the matter, it was duly moved
by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Tt2eyer that the matter
be referred to the Police Commission to determine what can be done
in connection with giving such service as requested. All members of
the Council present voting aye, the Mayor pro tern declared the motion
duly carried.
A communication was received from the Lynwood Elementary
School calling attention to the drastic need of bridges so that
children will be able to approach Woodrow ~Rrilson School from all
directions. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded. by Council-
man Meyer that said matter be referred to the Street Commission -nrith
instructions to take action in connection therewith at an early date.
All members of the Council present voting aye, the P2ayor pro tem
declared the motion duly carried.
A communication arras received from the Long Beach Press
Telegram su~~gesting that the City take out a. one-fourth page add in
their Anniversary Edition commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of
their newspaper, the cost to be X140.00. After due consideration o_"
the matter, it was duly moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by
Councilman Meyer that the City take out a one-eighth page add to cost
_ ?75.00, and bill be allo~rred when funds are available on or before Ju13
1st, 1938.

A communication was received from the Works Progress Admini-
stration calling attention to the need of contribution to cover pur-
chase of materials stating that it would require X7.50 per v~1orker per
month if the project is to be continued beyond the next four or five
weeks. After due consider=~tion of the matter, the City Clerk v~ras
instructed to notify the W. P. A. office that it will be impossible
for the City to participate as they have no funds available therefor.
Mr. R. A. Moffitt, special counsel, addressed the Council
on the matter of fee of O'P~elveny-Taller & T}~yers for handling the
Refunding proceedings for all A. ~ I. Districts, and. the possibility
of having a blanket Agreement accepted, which tp~~ould facilitate matter,
Mr. James L. Beebe also ~~aas present and_ addressed the Coun-
cil on the matter to the effect that such an agreement could be adopt-
ed.
Thereupon Nr. Beebe was requested to submit such an Agree-
ment for consideration of the Council.

ing, was read. It txras moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by
Councilman T~eyer that said Resolution No. 1051 be adopted.

Absent: Councilman Nation and h~a.yor Bolter.
A comrnunica.tion eras received from Joseph S. Joseph re-
questing that Street lights be furnished at the corners of Louise
and Ernestine St. and Louise and Gertrude Streets. There being no
objection, The City Clerk w-as instructed to notify RRr. Joseph that
when he ha.s more houses built in said Tract (Lug-o! that the City
will furnish lights at one of the intersections as requested.
An invitation vva.s r°eceived from the City rf San Bernardino
inviting the City officials to attend a meeting fr~T' dedication of
the new City I-~.11.
Applications for employment ~~ere received from Henry D.
Butt, Betty Snodgrass and ~tJ~;lter Gu,y TJiagee, and reports of activities
of City Court and_ Fire Department for :nonth ~f January; also re-
port on fire hydrants by Fire Ch ief Lewis. The Fire hyca_rant re-
port was referred to the City En~~~ineer for study and report ~~rhat is
necessary to correct the situation.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A communication was received from City Attorney Ruby on
the application of one Mir. E. B. Ripley to build on Lot 229, Tract
5222 at the corner of State St. a.nd L.B. Blvd. reporting that N!r.
Ripley now suggests that he be given ten feet additional land by
partial vacation of Cherokee Street upon the North, in addition to
a five foot vacation of State Street on the east of Stone's Lot.
After d.ue considerationof the matter it uJas moved by Councilman
Lake and seconded by Councilman ;treyer that the proposal of I~~r.
Ripley be declined and. the City Clem: be instructed to so notify
Tvir. Ripley.
T~~~r. H. A. Behnke addressed tiie council on the +oa tter of
disposing of bonds that cannot be sold on account of being tax
deeded property, stating that some one should be delegated with
authority to dispose of same.
'T'hereupon it was moved by Councilman Lake a.nd seconded.
by Councilman Tuleyer that the Chairman of the Finance Com~~ittee and
The City Treasurer be appointed to act on said committee with
~.uthority to set a. price and dispose of refunding bonds that can-
not be sold on the market.
