Street, on above date, at 7:30 P,T~~i. In the absence of T~/;ayor Nation, the n.eeting• wras called to order by the City Clerk and. u?on roll call it shooed the follow- in~ x~resent Councilmen TUieyer, Bolter and Snyder. Councilmen T:?ation a.nd Lake sere absent. The City Clerk announced that in the absence of the ~~ayor, a motion ~51ould be in order for the appointment of a T~iayor pro tem and Chairman of the Council. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded ~:y Councilman Juleyer that Councilman Bolter act as IvTayor and. Chair- man. All merl,bers of tree Council present voting aye, the City Clerk declared the motion duly carried and it trlas so ordered. There- upon Councilman Bolter took the chair. ~rJRITTEN COi:'I~JiUNIC!-~TIONS ; A cornrnunication ~Tas received from the University of Sou- thern Ca.l.ifornia announcing t}-ieir Institute of Government from June 14th to June 17th. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the City purchase a transferable rnernbershin for said course and,. that X25.00 be approp- riated for said purpose. Roll Call: Ayes : Councilmen l~~Teyer, Snyder and Buster. Noes: Toone. Absent: Councilmen N~.tion and L~~ke. A communication was received from Grubb and Tv,~eedy offer- ing' to do the auditing of City books for fiscal year 1938 and 1939. There being no objection, said communication was ordered filed. A communication v~+as received from the United Truck Parts and Equipment Co, making application to conduct a truck wrecking con:;ern on the southeast corner of Alameda and Century Boulevard, stating that they are no~~~+ located at 9999 South Alameda Blvd. After due consideration of the matter, it alas duly moved by Coun- cilman Snyc~.er and .seconded by Councilman P~Teyer tl7a.t said matter be referred to the Building• Inspector to investigate and if he finds that the business will not be objectionable a.nd is in the r~roper zone, that he be authorized to grant same. All members of the Council present voting; aye, the Tuiayor declared the motion du1.y carried. A communication and report wia.s received from VJm. Sullivan on Lynwood Free E;nployrnent Bureau re~•istration; also a letter from Donald Good thanking him for havin~~~ secured a job. There being no objection, ski comr:runications ~F!ere ordered filed. A communication wa.s received from Tfrs. L. P~. Simpson alleging that her son Larry, t~!hile playing; on the Lot ovSined by the City at the corner of Sanborn and California, ran into a pipe which had an unprotected d~tater tap extending from it insuch a ir!ay as to make it •~'.angerous, thereby cutting his leg badly, submitting a bill for X12.50 for medical care. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman iureyer and seconded by Councilman Snyder that the rna tter be referred to the City Attorney for his study to ascertain G~rhether or not there is any liability as far as the City is concerned, and if so, that he be authorized to settle with the claimant for said amount, or less, when full release has been received. All members of the Coun- cil present voting aye, the TNTa~yor pro tem declared the motion duly carried. A communication was received from A. W. Hansink, 3351 Virginia St., callin~T• attention to the bad condition of Virginia Street and requesting treat some perm<xnent improvement be made therF:- on. There being: no objection the City C1Pr1 eras instructed to in- form 142r. Hansink that the improvement of said Street is included in the FJ. P. A. project now in operation. A communication vas received from the Associated Assess- ment Engineers of Los Gngeles offering their services in connection q+ith preparing reassessment for Refunding proceedings to be taken by the City of L,ynti;=ood in connection with clearing A.& I. Districts of the City. There being; no objection, said communication ~~~a•s - ordered file .d . A communication ~:+as received from tiie Board of Supervisors of L. A. County enclosing copy they had received from tT:P Regional 251 Planning Commission of said Gounty in connection With the City's pro- test in connection with the subdivision south of Carlin and East of Caress, stating that they ~.~ill see that they comply With subdivision la~~~s v~?hen same is submitted to their Honorable Body for approval. There being no objection, said. communication Was ordered filed. An application for employment Wa.s received from Victor Otixren Williams; also health report. It ~.nas moved by Councilman Boster and seconded by Council- . ma.n T~~eyer that the City Attorney be instructed to check up on all franchise privileges granted to certain corporations for lines to ascertain ~rhether or not tT?e City is receiving a fair revenue thEre- from, and if all are paying according to la_~. All members of tyre Council present voting aye, the T~ayor pro tem declared the motion du~y carried. A communication vtiras received from Hector Hecock, Parade Chairman, inviting the Council and City to participate in Compton's Golden Jubilee celebration to be held on May 21st, a_t 1:30 P.M. There being no objection, the City Clerk Was instructed to notify Mr. Hecock that the City Will have four cars in the ^arade, if possible. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: An Ordinance, entitled: "An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Lynlxrood, California, vacating, abandoning a.nd closing the alley, roadway, drive~,~~ay and Walk~.nray located won and immediately to the east of Lots 113, 94, 130 and 148 in Tract 8716, as appears of Record. in Book 145 at Pages 63 and 64 of PJ[a.ps, in the office of the County Recorder of Los Angeles County, California, Was introduced and read the first time. There having been no Written protests filed and no one vTas present to submit their protest either in Writing or orally, it Wa.s duly moved by Councilman Snyder a_nd seconded by Councilman Meyer that the hearing 5e continued until May 26th, 193F~, at 2 P.M. The hour of 8 P.I,. having arrived, said time being the hour fixed for continuing the hearing in connection with the reassessment in the matter of refunding ~f the indebtedness of Acquisition and Improvement District No. 25 of the City of Lyn~Rrood. There having been no Written protests filed a.nd no one Was present to submit their x~rotests either in ~rritin~r or orally, it ~F~as duly moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by Councilman Sny.~ r that the hearing be continued until May 26th, 1938, a_t 2 P.T,~T.
