REGULAR MEETING JULY 19th, 1938
The City Council of the City of Lynwood met i'n a regular
session, in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, 11331 Plaza
Street, on above date, at 7:30 P. M.
Mayor Nation in the chair.
Councilmen Lake, Snyder and Nation answered the roll call.
Councilmen Boster and Meyer were absent.
In the absence of City Clerk Anderson, Pearl C. Morris,
Deputy clerk served.
It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Coun-
cilman Lake that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of
July 5, 1938, and of the adjourned regular meeting of July 12, 1938,
be approved as written. All members of the Council present voting
aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered.
A. communication was received from Los Angeles County
League of NTunicipalities giving notice of their regular meeting of
the League to be held in the City of Glendale on Thursday evening
July 21st, 1938, at 6:30 P. M. The Mayor asked the clerk to notify
the Secretary of the League the number of reservations of those
wishing to attend.
A communication was received from the Pacific Coast As-
sociation of Fire Chiefs stating that a four days Gonvention for
Fire Chiefs will be held in Salt Lake City beginning September 19,
to 22, 1938, and requesting that the City send their Fire Chief to
this important meeting. The Mayor asked that this communication be
referred to Councilman Snyder to be reported upon at a later date.
Report of the Los Angeles County Health Department was
received.
A communication was received from the American Legion
Lynwood Post No. 85, asking that the Council assist as much as
possible with their entry in the National Convention Parade to be
held in Los Angeles. September l9, 1938, and should the City con-
sider a contribution, their committee in charge of this entry would
be glad to meet with them and discuss the matter. Mayor Nation
appointed Councilman Snyder as chairman and Councilman Lake to look
into this matter and report on same.
A communication was received from Joseph & Joseph making
a second request for street lights in their Lugo Park Sub-division.
Mayor Pdation asked Councilman Lake to check up with Joseph 8c Joseph,
and find out the reason for delay.
A communication was received from Fire Chief Lewis ask-
. ing that the Gouncil approve the appointment of one Harold ~dhite
who resides at 3207 Sanborn Avenue, Lynwood, as vacation relief
man, as he has no one on the eligible list from the Civil Service
board and the night-call men are all employed and would not accept
the appointment for so short a time. It was moved by Councilman
Snyder and seconded. by Councilman Lake that the Fire Chief's re-
quest be ratified. All members of the Council present voting aye,
the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered.
Report of the Lynwood Free Employment Bureau from June
21st., to July 19th, 1938 was received.
Report from Police Department was received for the month
of June 1938.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
Mrs. Budlong addressed the Council in behalf of the Co-
ordinating Council asking the Council to assist in establishing or
start a Municipal Playground and presenting a letter from their
chairman, Katherine Haskell with copies of Resolutions endorsed by
various organizations as follows: Lynwood Exchange Club, Lynwood
Rotary Club, American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Lynwood
Womants Club, Lynwood ~~Vomans~ Club Juniors, Home Makers Club, Abra-
ham Lincoln P. T. A., Charles Lindbergh P. T. A., George Washington
P. T. A., ~loodrow Wilson P. T. A., Lynwood Junior High P. T. A.,
Troop 1 Girl Scouts, Lynwood Christian Church, Lynwood Woman~s
Christian Temperance Union. The ~rTayor stated that they have in mind
a park sight of some 10 acres or more that they hope to secure in
the near future to be used for just this purpose and that the Coun-
cil are more than willing to be helpful in every way they can to
help carry out just such plans as are endorsed in these resolutions
presented.
Thereupon RESOLUTION No. 1134, entitled "RESOLUTION OF
THE CITY COUiJCIL, OF THE CTTY OF LYN1,W0OD, RELATING TU THE REALLO-
CATING AND RE-APPROPRIATING 0F~3,508.95 TO THE. CITY OF LYNWOOD, was

read. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman
Lake that said Resolution No.1134 be adopted.

Thereupon RESOLUTION No. 1135, entitled: "RESOLUTION OF
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THL CITY OF LYNV1100D ADOPTING THE REPORT OF THE
CITY ENGIrTEER RELATIT~dG TO THE SERVICE NECESSARY TO NiAINTAIN AND
ILLUMINATE BY ELECTRIC ETIERGY THE SUSPENDED STREET LAMPS AND THE
LATt~PS ON ORPdAI~TENTAL STANDARDS IN LIGHTING DISTRICT No. 11 OF THE
CITY OF LYT~?'a'JOOD, was read. It was moved by Councilman Lake and s
seconded by Councilman Snyder that said Resolution No. 1135 be a-
dopted, fixing August 1Ei, 1938 at 8:00 P. Tti'I. as the time to hear
protests in connection therewith.

by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Councilman Lake that said
Resolution No. 1136 be adopted.
