HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1938-10-04 - CCREQULAR MEETING OCTOBER 4TH, 1938. 32 1 The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular cession, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, at 7:30 r. M. • Mayor Nation in the chair. Councilmen Boater, Lake, Meyer, Snyder and Nation answered the roll call. It was moved by Councilman Snyder and seconded by Council- man Boater that the minutes of the previous adjourned regular meet- ing of September 29th, 1938 be approved as written. AlI members of the Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly parried and it was so ordered. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: eports of activities of the City Court powering the month of September; also health report for week ending September 24th, 1938 was received. A pommunication•was received from City Engineer Bateman reporting on the bids submitted by various firma for the purchase of materials and equipment, as follows: WATEA-PIPE: FIRM 6" 8 12" re ate bid. Fisher Equipment Co. on a basis of plant delivery; and the spreader box to Smith Booth Usher Co. Thereupon it was moved~by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the pontraat be awarded to said firms at the price quoted therein, as•repommended by City Engineer Bateman, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute any contract in ponreation with said purchase for and on behalf of the City of Lynwood . Counci lman Lake addressed the Council to the effept that there is a piece of private property that extends into Minnestota Avenue at Long Beach Bouievard,•whieh should be dedipated to the City in order that access might be had on to LongBeaph Boulevard, stating that the owner was Ponta eted several years ago, but at that time refused to deed the property without payment therefor inexpessof what the property is~worth, however, that said owner may have changed his mind, or anew owner may have apquired title to the Lot, therefore making a motion that the City Attorney be instructed to contact the owner of said strip. of land to aspertain what the possibility would be for getting the necessary right of way deeded, which motionwas duly seconded by Gouneilman Meyer. All members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. Mayor Nation stated that there have been several old men who have desired to have a horse shoe court in the Fark strips for their amusement, suggesting that some aetionbe taken in connection therewith, appointing Councilman Snyder as a committee of on® to see what pan be worked out along that 11te. Councilman Snyder addressed the Council regarding the pos- sibiiili y of widening the sidewalk along Long Beaph Boulevard, be- tween Louise Street and Imperial Highway as it is not wid s en©ugh on account of lighting standards constructed therein. Councilman Snyder was appointed by the Mayor to ponfer with Engineer Bateman regarding the matter. ~~~ Ma or Nation suggested that the stop sign at Mulford and Long Beach Blvd. be moved Mack farther from the corner as it is in the pay for pedestrian8. This matter was referred to Chief Miller and Street Commissioner Meyer to see that same is moved. Councilman Boster spoke about the need of painting of the curbs next to driveways where same exists near Long Beach Blvd. as it would eliminate accidents. Chief of Police Miller addressed the Counoil to the effect that same are in the process of painting at the present time, however, that the Cdr Engineer should be instructed to submit the description of such zones in order that same may be included inan Ordinance. Mayor Nation spoke about the need of moreadequate~lights at the intersections of Fernwood, Mulford, Imperial and Lang Beach Boulevard. There being no ob~eetion, the matter was referredto Com- miseioner Lake and Chief of Police Miller to ascertain cost, etc., and report their findings to the Gity Counoil. Messrs. A. F. Aspenwall and Mr. Jenkins residing on Plumes Street, addressed the Council regarding the noise that is caused by manufac~ring by the Grayson Heat Control at the plant located on Norton Avenue, which is a nuisance to the property owners residing in the immediate vicinity; also regarding odors that emanate there- from., After due consideration of the matter., same was referred to Councilman Boater to see if some satisfactory solution cannot be made of the matter. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Council- man Boster that the City Attorney be directed to notify all public utilities, persons and parties that the City is authorized to grant franchise to, to make proper application for a new franchise, as .required by law. 811 members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it .was so ordered. It was moved by Councilman Nation and seconded by Councilman Lake that the meeting adjourn to October 18th, 1938, at ?:30 P. M.
