HomeMy Public PortalAbout20030106 premeetingCOUNCIL WORK SESSION JANUARY 6, 2003 CALL TO ORDER The Council Work Session of January 6, 2003, was convened at 5:45 p.m. by Mayor Tom Rackers. ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present: Present: Ferguson, Groner, Klindt, Smith, Viessman, Vogel, and Weber Absent: Angle, Olsen, and Vincent DISCUSSION OF AGENDA ITEMS The following categories had items were brought up for discussion: Appointments by the Mayor: Mayor Tom Rackers announced that he had received a request today from the Police Department to add the appointment of Doug Shoemaker as Police Sergeant if the Council would consent to the addition. No objections were made to the request for the added agenda item. Bills Introduced: 2002-123 — Councilman Edith Vogel stated that suspension of the rules is being requested by staff. Councilman Richard Groner stated he had some concerns with the levee project. City Counselor Allen Garner explained Bill 2002 -123 doesn't affect the levee project itself, it only prohibits permanent or major construction in a certain area around the proposed levy zone for a nine -month period so the City and Corps of Engineers can continue discussions. He explained that if, during the next few months, permanent or major structures were built in that zone, the city might be forced to buy them out if the levy moves forward and that could be quite expensive to the city. Informal Calendar: 2002 -116: Councilman David E. Smith stated he plans to bring the bill off for a vote and make a motion to amend the speed limit from eighteen miles per hour to twenty miles per hour. 2002 -117: This bill will remain on the Informal Calendar COUNCIL WORK SESSION JANUARY 6, 2003 2002 -118: Councilman Clyde Angle was not present, but Mayor Tom Rackers stated that he understood that Councilman Angle plans to remove the bill to amend it, then place it back on the Informal Calendar. Councilman Richard Groner stated that when rezoning ordinances or transfer of property ordinances come before the Council, he would like to receive a map or plat of the affected property so he can see exactly where it is. No officials actions were taken as this was a work session only. The Work Session ended at 6:00 P.M.
