A copy of the above mentioned information was distzibuted to the. commissioners for their review. This item will be discussed at the next regular meeting, , to possibly do something similar in the City of Lynwood. PUBLIC ORALS - Ann Fields mentioned that a.woman with.a child have been seen looking into trash cans on trash pick-up days on Agnes and walnut Streets. - Lorna Hawkins is concerned about individuals going around the streets with shopping carts, they_ hav8 been stealing miscellaneous items from the houses. - Barbara Newton, who works at Will Rogers elementary school, mentioned that she likes the year-round school system. Classes are limited to 20-22 students, except for kindergarten ' classes, which have about 35 students due to.private schools not offering kindergarten classes. -.Lorna Hawkins started a project.with the Sheriff's Department called "Crime Line", which will show criminals on " television for the public to identify. The show will start ' sometime in September, and will last approximately 15 minutes. - Bette Espeseth attended the City's 70ah Anniversary celebration, the Enshrinement ceremony for Councilwoman Wells and Senator Dills, and the Youth Summit. - David Litsinger announced that the Recreation Department will be moving to temporary office trailers due to the demolition of the Community Center. - Deborah Jackson contacted Mervin Dymally's office; Mr. Dymally is out of town, but he did deliver the proclamation from the City of Lynwood declaring the cities of Lynwood and Point Fortin as Sister Cities. � - Ann Fields inquired regarding putting signs with emblems of the different service cZubs (such as the Rotary Club) at the� entrance of the city. REGULAR MEETING OF THS COMMUNITY.AFFAIRS�COMMISSION August 21, 1991. The Community Affairs Commission met in a regular session on August 21, 1991 at the City of Lynwood City Council Chambers. (Agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) Commissioner David Litsinger called the meeting to order at 5:05 . p.m. , Commissioners.present were: Bette Espeseth, Ann Fields, Lorna Hawkins, David Litsinger, Barbara Newton, and Lucille Walker. Commissioners absent: Yolanda Bays. Staff present were Deborah Jackson and Pat Alvarez. The minutes of the July 17, 1991 regular meeting were approved as distributed. SCHEDIILED MATTERS A. SHERIFF'S AGENDA Sheriff's agenda was postponed until the next regular meeting. B. �CITIZEN OF THE MONTH AWARD PROGRAM Deborah Jackson distributed a draft nomination form, which will be published on local newspapers for residents to turn in names of candidates for the Citizen of the Month Award. All� commissioners approved said form, with the following changes: add to the criteria that nominees should not be elected officials, and change the program from monthly to quarterly award i presentations to initiate program, however., it could be changed at a later date as need arises. It was also recommended to have the commissioners determine from the nominations received which ' three semi-finalists should be submitted to the council Eor them to decide on one finalist. I C. ADJOURNMENT � � . i r' ` • • �� t COMMUNITY ACCESS ADVISORY BOARD Minutes of the Meeting of August 19, 1991 The r�gular meeting of the Community Access Advisory Board of the . City of Lynwood was held August 19, 1991 in the City Hall Council Chambers. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) Chairperson Mary Wright called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m. Members in attendance were Olympia Dudenhoeffer, Bill Cunningham, Ann Fields, and Mary Wright. Ada McZeal had an excused absence. Staff present were Jim Given, Don Morris, and Pat Alvarez. The minutes of the July 8, 1991 meeting were approved with one correction - on the last page, under Public Orals section, the board (not Jim Given) announced that the next goal for the board will be to have a competition program for local producers. SCHEDULED MATTERS A. PERSONNEL REPORT Jim Given announced that Don Morris, who is a former Lynwood Showcase host, will take Ron Roberson's place as Recreation Specialist (Cable Program), producing and directing the Lynwood Showcase program. B. TOPICS FOR UPCOMING LYNWOOD SHOWCASES Showcase #23 - Car Show - Senior Luncheon - Gospel Program - Health Tips Showcase #24 - Youth Softball Awards Banquet - Wells/Dills Enshrinement Ceremony - 70th Anniversary Celebration/Unity Festival - Chamber of Commerce Luncheon Other Suggestions - Library segment (will start taping on August 29) - St. Francis/LVN Program - Code Enforcement segment - New segment "Who do you call?" 1 '�� �� � � � � � � , - More moments in Lynwood history - More-health tips - Ann Fields suggested getting in touch with Dr. Thomas Braudy (across from St. Francis) and Dr. ' Adelle Stein (St. Francis) to obtain more information on health tips. - Football pre-game segment = Lynwood Pigskin Program - All-Star Baseball Game - Youth Summit - Job Fair C. LII BUDGET Jim Given explained that the $55,000 for Contractual Services on the 1991-92 Budget was specified to be used for ' equipment for Cable Program. PUBLIC ORALS - Michael T. Heriot, City Manager, attended the meeting; introduced himself and expressed his appreciation for the work the board members have done and continue to do for the city. He also mentioned that Metropolitan Water District delivered a videotape on water conservation and he would like the board to use it for one of their shows. - Jim Given announced that the community center would be demolished, and as a result they will be moving as of August 26, 1991 to temporary office trailers. They can be reached by phone by calling the same extension (319). - Spanish class for senior citizens is being offered by the Recreation Department, Don Morris to do commercials to publicize course. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m. 2
