I I ( i I I � , il • • COMMUNITY ACCESS ADVISORY BOARD Minutes for the Meeting of February il, 1991 The regular meetinq of the Community Access Advisory Board of the City of Lynwood was held February 11, 1991 in the City Hall Council Chambers. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) Chairperson Mary Wright called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m. Members in attendance were Mary Wright, Ada McZeal, Ann Fields, Bill Cunningham, and Rev. C.C. Coleman. Staff present were Perry Brents, Jim Given, Roy Bufanda and Pat Alvarez. The minutes of the January 14, 1991 were approved as distributed. SCHEDULED MATTERS A. VIEWING OF SAOWCASE #13 Board Members viewed showcase #13, which included the � following segments: - Lynwood High School Girls Basketball Team in Las Vegas I - Youth Football League (Lynwood Youth Athletic League) B. "GANGS: FACTS EVERY PARENT SHOULD KNOW" � The City of Lynwood was nominated in the category of "Public Municipal and Operator Produced Cable" in the Los Angeles area by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, for the �� year of 1989, for the production of the video presentation' "Gangs: Facts every parent should know." The City of Lynwood won an Emmy Award for the above category and John Clodfelter presented the award at the City Council meeting � of January 5th, 1991. Individuals involved in the production of the videotape (Sgt. John Stites, Lieutenant I Herbst, Perry Brents, Donald Antoine, and John Clodfelter) i were also presented with Commendations from the City ! Council. The award has been placed for display in the front lobby of City Hall. ; C. TOPICS FOR UPCOMING LYNWOOD SHOWCASES Showcase #14: - Martin Luther,King Holiday Activities - "Did you know?" (Armando Rea) � Perry Brents also discussed the following items: � - There will be a new show on March 14th, called "Sports as an Alternative", which will be a live talk and call show. � I ! 1 . ; � � Celebrities, along with sports figures from Lynwood High , • School will discuss what they have done as an alternative to gangs, drugs, etc. and will also take calls and answer questions from residents. - Staff has keys to Lynwood Studio but they have not moved in until a locking cabinet is put in. - Lena Sparks, from Lynwood Library will get permissiom from the County to tape a segment of the revised library system. - Memo in regards to the Lynwood Showcase Hosts, dated January 16, 1991 was distributed. D. LYNWOOD SHOWCASE PRODUCTION RESPONSIBILITIES Mary Wright brought up the topic of board's responsibilites towards the production of the Lynwood Showcase. It was Said that the board will continue to review the Lynwood Showcase, but other shows do not have to be approved by the board (such as "Special Edition"), unless the show will cover a specific idea that the board has requested. E. COMMUNZTY ACCESS ADVISORY BOARD MEETING SCHEDULE It was suggested to start the monthly board meetinqs at 5:00 � rather than at 5:30. It was approved by all board members to have the next meeting at 5:00 as a test, and see whether � that would create a problem for any of the board members. i PUBLIC ORALS � - Mary Wright suggested giving the City Council members a• � report on the board's activities (such as a summary with highlights of shows). , - It was also suggested to write a memo to the City Council members regarding the distribution of videotape productions done ,' for the local cable channel. - Board requested a list of the equipment beinq stored in Lynwood Studio. � - John Clodfelter mentioned that Lynwood staff has access to any equipment that the Cable Company has, and in fact Lynwood I uses it more than any other city that they serve. � - Jim Given mentioned the problem of shortage of staff they have. There are not enough persons to cover all events in the � city. Due to the shortage there also is not enough time to edit i the work. Jim stated that the staff shortage problem is their i number one priority at this time. ! - John Clodfelter mentioned that the Cable Company will have I a workshop on April 8th and 15th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Downey studio. I There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m. The neXt meeting is scheduled for March 11, 1991. , 2 I I
