Youth Commission Minutes
October 2, 1991
OPENING CEREMONIES
Ttie City of Lynwood Youth Commission met in a regular session at
the Teen Center, located at 11409 Birch Street on the above date
at 6:03 p.m.
Chairperson Boykin was in the chair.
Vice Chairperson Banks, Commissioner Agaalii, Contreras, C.
Green, S. Green, Perez, and Trigo answered the roll call.
Commissioner Zavala was excused and Commissioner Hardin, and
Wells did not answer the roll call.
Jim Given, Recreation Superintendent, certified the posting of
the Agenda by the City Clerk.
It was moved by Commissioner C. Green, seconded by Commissioner
Trigo, with all in agreement, to approve the Minutes of October
2, 1991.
INFORMATION ITEMS
Program Reports '
Teen Center
Leo Rodriguez, Facility & Program Supervisor, distributed the
monthly facility report and cash receipts and disbursements.
Youth Council I
Leo Rodriguez, Facility & Program Supervisor, briefly discussed
and distributed the minutes of the last Youth Council meeting.
Pool Party Evaluation �

Diana J. Escalante said the Pool party was a success and would ,
like to see it as an annual event, but recommended transportation
be provided to and from the event. i

Teen Center Anniversary i
Leo Rodriguez, Facility & Program Supervisor, briefly discussed �
the program itinerary for the upcoming Teen Center Anniversary on '
Saturday, October 19, 1991.

Picnic in the Park ,
Leo Rodriguez, Facility & Program Supervisor, discussed the
itinerary for the Picnic in the Park Program on October 19, 1991.
Commissioner Contreras asked for clarification on which band was
expected to play at the ceremony. She stated her band director
had informed her that they were not asked to participate.
Softball Game With Commerce
Diana J. Escalante, stated she had spoken with Commerce and
Saturday, November 16, 1991 was the date brought to the
Commission for approval.
It was moved by Commissioner S. Green, seconded by C. Green, with
all in agreement, to approve November 16, 1991 as the game date,
and have Octobe� 26, 1991 and November 2, 1991 as practice dates.
Commissioner Perez stated he would not be able to attend due to
prior coffiitments.
Chairperson Boykin suspended the agenda Co�issioner Contreras
and Perez could be sworn in.
Swearing in of New Commissioners
Andrea Hooper, City Clerk, swore in new Commissioners, Brenda
Contreras and Jaime Perez.

Commission Pictures

Leo Rodriguez stated a new commission picture would be taken at �
the Teen Center Anniversary Celebration. I
Chairperson Boykin requested a second picture be taken to post at
City Hall. •
Regional Youth Concert Preliminary Report I

Staff will have information on this at,next scheduled meeting. ,

Public Orals �
i
Kadana Sohnson, 10741 Hulme Avenue, representative from �
Resurrection Life Center reported being held on Youth Rally on I
October 5, 1991. She also invited the Youth Commission. �
Co�ission Orals �
i
Co�issioner Trigo distributed a memo to Youth Co�issioners
regarding the lack of involvement and interest in programs. j

Co�issioner C. Green co�ented on the success of the pool party
and he was looking forward to next years party.
Commissioner S. Green apologized for missing the last meeting.
Commissioner Hardin apologized for being late and welcomed the
new commissioners.
Jim Given requested the Co�issioners think about painting
addresses on residences and businesses to help raise money for
this year's fundraiser. Commissioner Trigo, Contreras and Perez
volunteered the scholarship co�ittee.
Vice Chairperson Banks apologized for being tardy, was pleased
with staff's efforts at the pool party and stated she hoped
co�issioners could put the same effort into the co�ission that
they did to become a co�issioner.
Chairperson Boykin requested a report on membership raised at the
pool party, apologized for not being at the pool party, and
encouraged the commissioners to come up with ideas for programs
they would like to see.
Leo Rodriguez stated there was no new membership, but he would
have an attendance report from the pool party available at the i
next meeting. �
Adjournment '
It was moved by Co�issioner S. Green, seconded by Co�issioner '
C. Green, with all in favor, to ad�ourn at 6:40 p.m. to the next �
regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, October 16, 1991 at the �
Teen Center. i
