A.M�AE� r�r•rvis�.e su.oevs RENxEiH SInGIEiON ���^�� The City of Lynwood Youth Commission met in a regular session at MiCNELE Zev�L� the Teen Center, located at 11409 Birch Street on the above date at 6:21 p.m. Chairperson Boykin was in the chair. Vice Chairperson Banks, Commissioner C. Green, S. Green, Hardin, Trigo, and Wells answered the roll call. Also present were Errick R. Lee, former Chairperson of the Youth Commission and Lucy Hernandez, Representative of Parents Interested in Education (P.I.E.). Commissioner Agaalii, Davis, Singleton and Zavala were not in attendance. Commissioner Ramirez was excused. Jim Given, Recreation Superintendent, certified the posting of the Agenda by the City Clezk. It was moved by Vice Chairperson Banks, seconded by Commissioner Wells, with all in agreement, to approve the minutes of July 3, 1991. INFORMATION ITEMS Program Report Diana J. Escalante, Recreation Leader, gave an updated report on the current events at the Teen Center. Youth Council Diana J. Escalante, Recreation Leader, reported the Youth Council met Monday, and their minutes would be mailed to the Commission. Youth Summit It was moved by Commissioner Trigo, seconded by Coffiissioner C. Green, and carried, to approve the purchase of buttons and ribbons for the Youth Summit: � Q Y Commissioner Tr�o, S. Green and Wells voluntee�d to help with ' ` the Youth Summit registration. 70th Anniversary Celebration Jim Given, Recreation Superintendent, gave an update and an itinerary on the 70th Anniversary events. Public Orals - Lucy Hernandez, 3973 Lugo, Representative from Parents Interested in Education (P.I.E.), invited the commission to a trip to Sacramento and asked for monetary support. She also told the Commissioners when the next meeting will be held. Jim Given, Recreation Superintendent, recommended the Youth Commission go to City Council regarding this issue. Chairperson Boykin requested more information on this issue. Commission Orals ' It was moved by Commissioner Green, seconded by Commissioner S. Green, and carried, to award Jim Chapman a plaque or certificate for his involvement with the Chamber of Commerce Car Show. Commissioner, Trigo reiterated the importance of starting the meetings on time and thanked Lucy Hernandez for P.I.E.'s support of the community. Chairperson Boykin thanked Lucy Hernandez (P.I.E.) for her presentation, stated she would like to see every commissioner at the Youth Summit, and reminded everyone the pre parade reception starts at 8:45 a.m. � Adjpurnment � It was moved by Commissioner C. Green, seconded by Commissioner Trigo, with all in agreement, to adjourn to the next regularly ' scheduled meeting on Wednesday, August 7, 1991. Call to Order Chairperson, Tony Brown called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. II. Pledge of Alleaience The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Charles Agaali IIZ. Invocation Invocation was led by Andre Agaali IV. Approval of Minutes It was moved by Andre Agaali and seconded by Danny Haley II to approved the minutes of June 17, 1991 with the following correction: Section V third nomination shall now read: Danny Haley II nominated himself as chairperson, Andre Agaali second. Motion carried. V. Supervisor's Report Supervisor Rodriguez discussed the age limit for the Teen Center clubs, the mandatory teen membership cards, and the Sports Club show that will take place on September 14, 1991 at Bateman Hall. ,� ! � � � VI. Proaram Reoorts Supervisor Rodriguez discussed the upcoming Yard Sale for the Teen Center Recreation Leader, Denise Haley discussed the Teen Center's Snow Cone booth for the Unity Festival and passed around the ' sign in list for helpers. Recreation Leader Fernando Airada discussed the sports card booth at the Unity Festival and passed around a sign up lists for helpers. VII. Subiect of the Month Supervisor Rodriguez discussed that each month the meetings � will have a guest speakers on various topics that are of interest to the community. VIII. Recreation Reoort Recreation Leader, Diana Escalante discussed the activities during the 7oth Anniversary program on Saturday. Supervisor Rodriguez informed the council that the baseball season ended and a banquet was held on Saturday; July 13, 1991. IX. What New at Your School Supervisor Rodriguez explained the philosophy of " What's new at Your school," which is a time for the members to express to the council of what is happening at their school. X. 4uestions for Council Siatua inquired about the minimum age to be a Youth Commissioner Danny Riley II inquired about the age limit for the classes at the Teen Center. Andre Agaail inquired as to when the sign - ups for football will be. XI. Public Questions None XII. Adjournment Andre Agaali moved, Danny Haley Junior second to adjourn to the next meeting on August 19,1991. Motion carried.
