JG/dy 6/5/91 � � � � .� � � It was moved by Commissioner Murphy, seconded by Commissioner Davis and carr3ed after discussion, that if the person receiving a scholarship attends a Cal State, U.C., or private institution, they will receive $500.00 each semester, and if they attend a ' Community College or Vocational School, $500.00 per semester will . be given to the College and will be distributed via the voucher system. � Commissioner Davis left the meeting at 7:00 p.m. � � It was moved by Commissioner Murphy, seconded by Commissioner C. Green and carried to give plaques and $100:00 saving bonds to valedictorians at Hosler Junior High School and Vista Continuation. ROLL CALL• � . Ayes: Banks, C. Green, S. Green, Murphy, Ramirez, Wells � Noes: None Abstain: Boykin, Zavala ` Teen Center Report ' Leo Rodriguez, Facility & Program Supervisor - Teen Center, briefly discussed the activity, attendance, clubs and financial statement for May. Anti-Graffiti Day Report Diana J. Escalante, Recreation Leader gave a report on the May 25, 1991 Anti-Graffiti Day. It was moved by Commissioner Murphy, seconded by Commissioner '. Zavala, with all in agreement, to change the Anti-Graffiti Day to twice a year and draft a letter to Council reflecting this change based on a recommendations made by staff. Commissioner Wells left the meeting at 7:20 p.m. School Activity Report Commissioner Zavala stated she would give a report to Ralph Davis, Assistant Director Recreation & Parks tomorrow. Commissioner Ramirez gave a report regarding upcoming events for � the month of June, and gave suggestions to the Commission ' �' regarding teen programs. CONSENT ITEMS Pool Party �, . Jim Coles, Aquatic Director answered questions from the ; Commission regarding this item,.gave estimates on cost and � times. �� � � 6 �. � 4 r � . i � , • It was moved by Commissioner Murphy, seconded by Commissioner Ramirez, with all in agreement, to put this item . under information items on the next agenda. ' Disciplinary Procedures It was moved by Commissioner Murphy, seconded by Commissioner , Ramirez, and carried to table this item until the next agenda. Public Orals Errick R. Lee, Former Chairman and Member of Youth Commission, , stated he disagreed with the Commission's decision regarding the scholarship program. He commended Commissioner Davis on winning the Youth Merit Award. ' Cynthia Green - Geter, 3850 Virginia Avenue, gave the Commission information on an upcoming Township meeting, commended Chairperson Boykin, and Vice Chairperson Banks on a job well done so far, stated the Commission should send a letter to the F Recreation and Parks Co�ission regarding a waiver of fees for the pool party, Youth Summit Co�ittee be organized and candidates who have turned in application for the Youth ' Commission should be contacted and made a part of the Youth . Council. Commission Orals Ralph Davis, Assistant Director Recreation and Parks, introduced Jesus Trigo as the new Commissioner, announced job applications are being taken at Compton Employment Development Department for the summer, and wished Errick R. Lee and Isadore Hall luck at the All American City Competition in San Antonio, Texas. . Commissioner Zavala expressed her concern over the selection of the new Commissioners. - Commissioner Murphy stated he has not resigned, he only announced the intention, but no date was given. He also questioned when the Softball game between staff and the commission will be held. . Vice Chaizperson Banks stated she didn't feel the decision made by the Commission regarding scholarships was fair. Chairperson Boykin requested information on Commissioner Sanders attendance, why the whole youth commission was not invited to All American City Competition and requested Commissioners come up with ideas for fall programs. Adjournment . It was moved by Commissioner Murphy, seconded by Commissioner Zavala, with all in agreement, to adjourn to the next regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, June 19, 1991. � �: � � � � � � ,
